I installed the new Cubicman deluxe software and I couldn't get it to work. When I went to the product info page, it reads: This update only works on the official iPhone OS.
Does this mean any developer can make their software not work if the iPhone is jailbroken?
I think this could be a big problem going forward.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Yes, I am. Jailbroken and unlocked 2.1 on a 2G iphone. I haven't had any problems with any apps (almost a hundred) except for this one, which happens to say on the product description that it only works with official software. Weird.

Why would a developer make their app not run on jailbroken software?

Anyway, it's not even possible for an AppStore app to determine whether or not the phone is jailbroken, since it only has read access to its sand box. If it attempted to read elsewhere, Apple would reject the app, since it would be violating their rules.

It isn't a problem, it is a solution.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3G (16GB, 2.1 PWNed): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

I seem to remember Lumen requiring an update to make it compatible with jailbroken phones (the developer explicitly said this) ... I hope Apple doesn't try to use this as a way to 'indirectly' discourage jailbreaking ...

I've got exactly the same error. Cubicman Deluxe was working fine on my JB 3G iphone 2.0.2. I upgraded to the lastest version on Monday, when I got the notification that a new version was available.

On upgrade, I got the error "The application Cubicman Deluxe was not installed on the iPhone XXX because it is not compatible with this iPhone".

None of the usual resolutions to app installation problems have worked.

I jumped to the same [maybe hasty] conclusion as you about what the implication of this might be.

If anyone else gets this same error - do let us know. Especially if you've since resolved it.

thanks
C.

Hmm, the app seems to be running perfectly fine on my iPhone 3G 2.1 JB.

Domness - Can you confirm that you've upgraded to the latest version of Cubicman Deluxe (v1.3) pls?
Mine worked fine with the previous version, but not the latest.

thanks
C.

Update... I've just read the app's page on the Appstore again, and they've added (or I originally missed) the line "requires 2.1".
Guess I'll try again to install the App once I get round to upgrading.
