My wife got a new iPad about a year ago. She recently started having trouble getting her charging cable to stay plugged in. We tried several othe cables, but none of them will plug in, so I’m guessing the port got damaged somehow. Is this an easy fix at the Apple Store or are we talking a trashed iPad?

It could be the port is damaged or dirty.

Lightning can be cleaned out with toothpicks - don’t know about usb-c.

Take the iPad to an Apple Store and see what they say.

Agreed, if it doesn’t stay plugged in, there’s probably dirt in the port. I’d use a toothpick - carefully - as a first step.

Thanks guys, but I'm pretty sure it's not dirt. The toothpick trick was the first thing I tried. The fact that other charger cords won't even go in, makes me think the port is damaged. It's like metal against metal. The strange thing is that the charger cable she was using, (which may have caused the damage) goes in fine, but won't stay in.

I plan to take it to Apple. I guess I was hoping to prevent sticker shock if it can be repaired.

Thanks again.

Yeah, if it’s not that, I’d take it to Apple.
