I recently brought in an older iMac 17" for a warranty replacement LCD. When I got it home it was making an awful clicking noise from the lower right hand corner. When I opened it up I noticed the shoddy job that was done. The EMI tape that should be taped over the edge of the LCD was not there. They had just cut it out completely and didn't replace it. I noticed that 1 of the 4 screws securing the LCD was missing and another was loose. The clicking sound went away after I opened the case and I found out why... When the LCD was secured tight to the inside it would click, hence the missing and loose screw. That right there makes me think it was an intentional shortcut to get rid of the clicking. I removed the LCD and found the obvious issue. The cables that should have been secured with tape were not and they were freely rubbing against the ODD fan. I fixed it and put it all back together but I am now very upset at the quality of work that was done and the possible deception that went into covering it up.
Has anyone ever had a similar problem with sub par work at an Apple store and if so what can be done about it? I don't expect anything more than a half assed apology and I would really prefer that someone would get an ass chewing but I doubt that would ever happen too.
I may call Apple and complain but I want to get the info out to the public since that may have more effect than a single complaint.
Below are some pics I took:
Notice no tape holding anything down
No tape on the sides...
Here's the whole thing from the front
Here's the fan and the wires that were hitting it
and finally the other side where the EMI tape was peeled up from improper closing of the outer shell.
