I keep getting hard drive disconnects. I have an Apple Firewire800 to TB adapter. It's not my Firewire cord, I've replaced that already.

It occurs on BOTH TB ports and has occurred by simply rotating the iMac. When I jiggle the connector at the TB port it disconnects, the first port with very little movement and the second port took a number of jiggles and felt a bit tighter.

What do you think? The adapter is almost 2 years old and is unplugged/replugged once every week or two.

The FW800 drive...
Is the enclosure "openable"?
If so, can you take the drive OUT OF the enclosure?
If so, could you put it into a USB3/SATA dock and use it that way?

Probably the adapter. I recently bought a tb2-tb3 adapter, and after a good week it started to disconnect my external tb sound card. After a few days, I couldn't get a connection at all. Got a new one, problem solved. Get a new adapter, but before that, try on a different computer if possible.

Was yours an Apple adapter or another brand? Good point about another computer!! I can try on my MBP2014 (embarrassed I didn't think of that).

Whoa. Disconnects with a wiggle from laptop, too. C'mon Apple where is your quality in a $40 adapter !! Thanks for all your help, MacForum.
