Badge app icon..Facebook, FB Messenger, Instagram

Hi all,

I've been having some problems with my iPhones for months now and was just choosing to ignore it, but I really can't take it anymore. I've had the 5s, 6 and now finally the 6s and the problem I'm having is with certain apps, like shown in the title. The little red badge app icon won't show up to see how many messages/notifications I have. This has been an ongoing problem since my 5s. I have tried uninstall/reinstall...reboot...reset all settings...restore from iCloud backup and finally set up as new phone when I just got my 6s. Nothing has changed. And it's only on the apps mentioned in the title. The badge app icon shows up on messages, mail and other apps, but FB, FB messenger and Instagram, never! When I open the app, it'll show how many messages and it shows up in notification center, but no little red badge app icon on the app itself. I have a ticket open with Apple but they keep telling me to do the same things I've already tried. And I made sure I have my notifications set to on as well. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this and what may be done to solve the issue?

sorry, obvious one, but as you didn't explicitly mention it, are badges set to on in the notification settings for those apps?

Yes they are.... I've just about everything out there, to no avail...I've even reported the problems to FB and Instagram through the apps themselves...I'm at such a loss here

Instagram doesn't use badges. FB and FB Messenger do and I certainly see them on my device, not sure why they wouldn't be showing up for someone.

I had thought it might have been a problem with an update, like it was corrupted or something, but that is ruled out since I got my iPhone 6s and set it up as new and still don't get the badge app icons....

are you definitely getting notifications, and it's that the notifications don't get associated badges with them too?

cos I know for example 'likes' don't get notifications (banner/NC/lockscreen), and thus no badge either. so whilst you may have a badge within Facebook (on the notifications tab) you won't get one on the app badge on your home screen. I think that's right anyway.

Yes I'm definitely getting notifications just not the badges associated with them....

Just stumbled across this as was looking at why Instagram doesn't have a badge yet.

You seem unaware that they have never had one not do they support this feature and blame your phone rather than the app?

It's how Facebook does things basically. Instagram doesn't use badges at all. Facebook app is sort of on and off with notifications and recently also stopped with the badges it seems. Facebook messenger is the only one that is more typical and consistent and uses usual notifications with badges.

Edit: It seems that after today's Facebook update the badges started showing up for it once again (at least in my case).

Had a similar issue. In the App notification settings make sure you have the 'Notification grouping' set to 'By App". That solved my problem.
