Since IOS 5 install, my badge icon for mail is not updating properly when I have a new message. My notification center is working fine as the "view on lock", "show preview" and the actual alert in the notification center is displaying the message, but the badge icon does not says "1, 2", etc. Anyone experience this? I have confirmed that Show Badges is set to On. This is for my gmail count.

Is the gmail account set as an exchange server or a standard gmail account? Have you tried removing and reinstalling the service?

I am using an Exchange g-mail account, I just deleted and re-added and the problem persisted. Got the notification in the center, which disappears after the preview, but when I unlock my phone and go to my home screen, the mail badge did not say "1". I had to go into Mail and see the message to show me I had new mail.

You can try setting it up as a gmail account (instead of exchange). Also, is the unread message after the message limit (ie - the iphone is set to display 50 messages but it is message number 54?)

No, I am OCD with my inbox and it's always empty. I can't use the normal Gmail setup as it doesn't sync calendar and contacts :(

Yeah, that's just strange, maybe try to reset/restore. Obviously a bug.

Upgrading to a 32 GB 4s in a week or two, so hopefully that will fix it. Although I will be doing a backup/restore from iCloud...
