bah! updated software, had to restore my phone.

i thought i read when the 1.01 version came out that people didn't have to restore their phone and jailbreak items stayed on the phone. well, not for me. once the service pack was downloaded, i received an error and it required me to restore the phone. downside is i had some important notes, phone numbers, and random photos i would have liked to have kept/jotted down before having to restore! unfortunately, that wasn't possible. after the restore all the ringtones i had were gone, then i had to go back and recreate favorites lists, weather cities, bookmarks, etc.
talk about a PITA! i sure hope this isn't a usual task when updating the iphone's firmware in the future. there's no reason you should have to do a restore for an update. i'm guessing it was just because of jailbreak. either way, it sucked.

With all due respect, what did you expect? You're using an unsupported third party hack, so of course it can/will cause problems when updating through the official Apple update mechanism.

With that being said, I used the jailbreak method on my iPhone, and did a complete sync before updating my phone. After restore the only things not present were some of my photos taken with the iPhone camera. Everything else was exactly like I had left it before doing the restore.

Not sure who told you that but if you Jailbreak the phone, the iPhone doesnt pass the validation checks before it updates to 1.01, which forces a full restore, which is perfectly normal because you Jailbreak'ed the phone. I had to do this and so did everyone else. If you had a legit phone with no jailbreak done, the upgrade works fine.
