With Baldur's Gate coming to MAS probably this summer I've been meaning to ask What do you most adore about the game? Which are the best parts or part?

I know this is probably going to sound a bit weird but I always enjoyed the journey from Candlekeep and Friendly Arms Inn in Chapter 1. When I played it for the first time it felt like no other game. Cloakwood is also memorable with beatifully rendered landscape (for that time).

I was 13 when I played the game in late 1999 - it wasn't on Mac but on PC. It was also the first boxed game I'd ever bought so it felt really special. Sorry for being nostalgic :)

All I remember is I played that game non-stop for quite a long time. It is still in my top 5 games of all time. It was extremely well done, and still stands up fairly well even today. The new releases should be excellent!

iOS?

Isn't there an iOS version coming as well or did my mind make that up?

I just remember being totally immersed in the game, missing meals and sleep. Sad to say, it may be that way again! :D

Yes, it is coming on iPad this summer as well.

What I love about BG ? Nothing except from the fact that it is the best cRPG I've ever played (and I've played almost all out there).

First RPG I played where you decisions really mattered in terms of your company. You can literally lose companions that don't see things your way.
Still, being the good guy I was, I liked Imoen. The whole aspect of the childhood friend and the plucky thief was a fun dynamic.

I still consider it a breakthrough RPG for its time. The game, I believe, that got people who normally turn their noses away from CRPGs due to lack of variety in story-telling and scenarios from the Pen-and-Paper; to take notice. It plays like a good campaign while giving you the feel that you are *roleplaying* the character, with the freedom to do so.

Boo, the miniature giant space hamster, of course!

Boo was the best! I'm really curious how the BG will be on iOS. It will probably look fantastic on retina but not so sure about gameplay.

Anyways check the twitter feed of one of the devs, he regularly reveals stuff they're working on:

My favorite part? Creating this : The Gate House

Sure it doesn't include any expansions or anything, but I'm glad I left it up. Been, what, 10 years now? Man I feel old.

Cool web! I created something similar for Final Fantasy VII (PC version) but it's long gone.

UPDATED: Baldur's Gate: What do you love about it?

So to update the thread:
Pricing and details have been announced and so far it looks great!

OS X version coming in September, available in Mac App Store for $19.99

iPad version at $9.99

Great pricing model, they could have easily charged $49.99/19.99 and lot of people would buy it. There doesn't seem to be Steam version coming so shame but Windows version will be out on September 18th and you can preorder now.

There are THREE new characters and new story to be played, I'm glad that it's not only bare port. Follow @TrentOster for more information.

I loved the combat system in all of the Infinity Engine games, that Baldur's Gate used first. I love the feeling of having a really, really weak party and having to work to keep them alive long enough to level up. I love the official rules/monsters/classes from the real deal, AD&D.

However, my favorite RPG in its class has got to be Planescape:Torment, hands down.

I love the atmosphere Planescape had, so unique! Unfortunately I've never finished it, it just never grew on me as much as BG or Icewind Dale series. Maybe I'm gonna give it another go one day.

So far there has been no word if the savegames will be shared via iCloud or Dropbox - I would love to have the ability to pick up where I left off when I go out with my iPad.

Oh also the devs said that all three generations of iPad are supported which is great I think and only proves that they're really putting effort in making quality code.

Oh man. OH MAN! I cannot WAIT til September now. I've always said the iPad was the perfect place for oldschool style PC games, and this game just feels like justification to my claim.

That said, does anyone recognize the place in this screenshot? I've played BG quite a bit, but I don't think I've ever seen this area.

Also, mention of high res screen support...does this mean it's going to support 2048x1536 retina? :O

You HAVE to finish Planescape. The story, the reason behind who your character really is, the twist ending . . . you owe it to yourself to play through til the end.

The screenshot is probably from one of the new areas they've added. And yes they're going to support 2048 x 1536 for the new iPad. This whole project is awesome! Really looking forward to it!

They might very well be doing Planescape Enhanced as well so that's something to think about.

Depends on how well BG sells on the iPad. If it does decently (and it should), then they'll release BGII and Icewind Dale. After that, probably Planescape and maybe IWD2.

It's the least likely to come to iOS, but there's still a good chance it could happen.

I am excited about this release coming to the Mac and the enhancements too. I hope it does very well and the rest of the Infinity engine games make their way to the Mac too. That would be awesome!

It's hard to pick favorite parts of the game where I loved so much of it. I will say Boo, of course. I am very fond of Imoen as well. I love it when she says, "I done had enough of this!" I loved the occasional banter between NPCs and installed a mod that added more which was very good. I loved the large world to explore and the sense of real danger whilst exploring. I really loved the wonderful music which did a great job of setting the mood in various places.

Baldur's Gate is just an exceptional classic game. It's no wonder we remember it fondly and look forward to it coming to Mac in enhanced form and supporting widescreen too. Yay!

there will be a new character and related missions, plus a new area...

this game will eat hours...

then wasteland 2...

and there is the restored Kotor 2...

and there is talk of another Planescape!!!

Restored KotOR 2? There was never a Mac version of the original to begin with. Am I missing something?
