Ballywoo - The Game Sensation of 1932

ballywoo-screenshot.png

Ballywoo recreates one of the first commercial, mass-produced pinball machines ever made. That machine launched the long-lasting career of Ray Moloney's Bally Manufacturing Corporation.

Move back to the year 1932 and feel the history.

(This is a more evolved version than the one we've released for iPad.)

Available on the AppStore now!

Ballywoo - The Game Sensation of 1932 is free till Sunday!

Donwload it now before it's too late! ;)

I downloaded it

and it won't open. I deleted and redownloaded, and it still won't open. Even after a power off, power on cycle.

3GS, IOS 4:confused:

Damn, some people have had same kind of problems, but we addressed them in an update submitted yesterday. Hopefully the update helps for you too!

May I ask do you use 4.0 version or 4.1 version of iOS? There have been no probelms with the latter, but of course the game should work on 4.0 also.

4.0

Just running IOS 4.0 on a 3GS.
Will download updates to Ballywoo as they are available.
Can't upgrade to 4.01 or higher until I get a new computer. I have a 10 year old computer and it does good for a lot of stuff, but has it's limits.:)
Thanks for the reply.

Tried it out on my iPhone 3G on 4.1iOS, worked well.

Really retro with realistic physics, don't like the flick to shoot though (there's no way to visually see how hard you're shooting the ball).

Great!

There actually is a way to visually see how hard you're shooting: the speed of the swipe doesn't count, all that counts is how far you drag your finger lengthways. If you drag your finger almost to the end of the shooting are, then you also get a maximum velocity (and vice versa).

But you are right that we haven't implemented any visual effects or something like that to see how hard you're shooting.

Ok, we found a reason for the crash. It should be fixed on the soon-to-come update. ;)

This is for the other users too: The game works currently only on iOS 4.1 devices, but as I said the update will fix this.

I think a bar to pull down on with a gauge to see how far you've pulled the bar down would help out a lot. Pull down halfway for half the power, then release. Seems the best way to get a sense of control over power on a touchscreen to me anyways.. dunno, just an idea.

I will definately await the update and let you know how it turns out.
Thank you

There was a crashing issue with the game when played on earlier iOS version that the latest 4.1.

The issue has now been fixed! Thanks for your patience!

Update worked!

Downloaded update and played Ballywoo!
Works fine, no problems.
Gameplay is smooth, graphics are nice. As in the original, there are no bells and whistles, which I appreciate. Also, you can tilt the device and no penalty.
Great application.
5 star!:p

Great! Thanks a lot for testing the game!

Suggestion though for those who have already downloaded it and see as of today there's an update: Don't.
All the update really gives you are ads.

Sort of kills the game's appeal for me (deleted as such).

Yes, that's the biggest thing the update does, but there are a couple of other things too which should make the playability better. Ads are only in the menu & score screens of the game - they shouldn't disturb the actual gameplay.

We had to add ads as we wanted to make the game free - otherways we wouldn't make any profit, and we wouldn't be able to continue development without any profit.

I'm sure your motives and agenda are pure, but the bummer is when you first started this thread your app was 99c.
I downloaded it and enjoyed the game for the minimal gameplay it offered.

Since then you've turned it into a free app and now, just with this recent update, added advertisements.

I wish you would have kept the paid version and added a free one with the ads.
-Ads in general are a bother but with your game- an app that takes you back to the 1930's with its simple gameplay, the ads are a distraction. Too much so.

Actually the game was free only very briefly before the ads came in. But I understand your irritation, and I'm sorry that you had to pay for the application that was eventually set free. The idea of releasing two versions of the game is a good one, but I guess it'd have added to the work to be done with updates, and it'd probably have been a bit confusing for potential customers too to have two versions of the same game.
