Bank Charge Disappeared for 2017 MBP w/tb

I made my account because I'm in quite an interesting situation,

Also I was unsure exactly what thread this was best suited for but here it goes...so I purchased the new MacBook Pro with touch bar with the 3.1 GHz processor and 1TB HD.
I was charged for the item prior to shipping as expected (June 19)..... BUT when I checked my bank statement this morning (June 20) the charge disappeared. YET, the item is supposed to arrive tomorrow (June 21), the tracking still sill shows it's on the way AND my order status with Apple is still in good standing.....

Has anything like this ever happened to anybody for these recent orders?

Happens all the time. Unfortunately, you will still be charged for it in a couple of days!

(It is quite annoying because since the charge drops off, you sometimes think you're thousands of dollars better off than you actually are for a couple of days! )

Most likely was just a pre-authorization to make sure you actually had the funds. Pre-authorizations only last for a few days. Your bank expired the pre-authorization before Apple made the final charge. Apple will just charge it again, so you'll be charged the full amount eventually.

Lol I thought this when I bought the 2017 MBP last week. It didn't take the money out until 2 days later. Thought I'd got away with it...

Go to your bank and close the account. Since it's already in the mail it will be free.

Bank charges can take up to a few days to appear on your statement. Pretty sure that is written somewhere on every banks information out there.

You have a holding charge of $2000, this is a reserve firstly to check the account is real, secondly to ensure the payment can be taken. This is for your benefit, otherwise they would have to cancel the order when it was ready to ship if you'd suddenly spent all your money. And you'd be disappointed.

Once the item is ready to ship they remove the holding charge and take full charge. Which again will take up to a few days to appear. It's the 21st now which is when you said it would be arriving, so check your account today and tomorrow. Alternatively go try to spend that $2000 and see if the card rejects the payment.

I was curious because a friend of mine once received an extra iMac during a snow storm because it was thought to have been lost during shipping when in fact it wasn't and they never contacted him about having the extra one!!!

If something was reported as lost in shipping then it'll go to the insurance company. They will do everything they can to track the package, and assuming it was delivered and signed for, you better believe they'll be coming to collect it or charge you. They have your bank details after all... Under extremely rare circumstances things like that can happen, and you'll hear the occasional miracle story (Along the lines of free replacement/upgrades on 10 year old machines at Apple), but more often than not it's just fantasy.

I did get a free Xbox One controller once though, but again rare circumstances. They sent one out and it was never delivered, so they sent out a new one. I was out so received a note to collect from the post office, when I went to collect it they handed me two parcels. On closer inspection the first one was delivered next door (21a) but they were out so it was sent to the post office, mine was sent to 21. The clerk just read my name and the 21 and assumed they were both mine. It is technically theft though... But I wasn't going through all the hassle for the sake of a £40 controller.

If the charge doesn't show up, I'd highly recommend you speak to somebody about it, as I've been through this myself.

Back when the Apple Watch was first announced, I placed a pre-order. On the same day that they processed and made the payment, I had a fraud alert on my account, so they cancelled my card and issued a new one.

The Apple Watch was dispatched, I received it and then paid off my credit card, which included the Apple Watch transaction on my statement. A few weeks down the line, an Apple representative got in touch saying that I had not paid and I had 14 days to do so, or it would be handed to their legal team to deal with.

I spoke to my credit card company and they confirmed the money had been sent to Apple and that I had paid it off my card. Apple on the other hand disputed it this and said they still had no payment for it. The credit card company had no record of any chargeback, so I asked them to ensure the payment I had made and already paid off, was made to Apple, which I was told would be done within 2 days.

A few weeks later, Apple got in touch to say they still had no payment and this was now my final warning. I finally managed to escalate it my credit card complaints department who had somebody senior look into it. It turns out that a chargeback had been issued under my cancelled card's number, which nobody had spotted and it was entirely their fault that an error had occurred where it looked like I'd paid for it and ended up paying it off my card.

This was a good few weeks of hassle, so best avoided!
