Banner notifications for Apple Mail on new MBA

The badge shows up, and I had banners yesterday- now I don't get the banners. I think I changed it to see what 'alerts' were, then back to banners...now, no banners?

What are banners? Screenshot would help.

The banner is the notification from email that pops up top right.

What are your Settings/Notifications/Mail settings?
