Hey people,

I had this happen to me for the first time in about...9 years on the net and I don't know what it is.

I was visiting a forum site, just finding out some info, and someone had icon or banner in their sig which told me my IP address, Browser, and even my OS.

They even had a nice message saying "I can see you lol". I kind of freaked  out a bit because I had no idea what was going on.

What the heck is this?

All of that is available - your computer advertises it. That way websites know where you are, what format to display etc. It's like when you click to download a file from a site and it takes you straight to the OS X version rather than the Windows one.

Nothing special.

haha, these are all things your cmoputer tells the interwebs. Private browsing may fix it

nothing to be freaked out about

the guy can see it (probably, even if he could who cares. its just your os and ip)

Nope, it doesn't... Surfing with private browsing, and still saw my IP in the box ...

Private browsing will not hide you IP address or any of the other info. It only stops the browser from storing the info in the cache. To hide this info you will need to use a proxy server that will anonymize your IP and then spoof your browser agent string to something else. But seriously, it's pretty harmless and useless info.
