Today a sales associate was showing me his Samsung Epic 4G and he showed me this cool barcode app he got from the android marketplace (forgot the name of the app)

What he could do is actually scan an items barcode using his camera and it would save the barcode into a regular barcode image and then he turned around and scanned the actual image off his phone using a scanner at the checkout register and it worked. I was wondering if the App Store has a similar app?

I know there is plenty of barcode apps that you can just scan an item using the camera but I was looking for one that saves the barcode into an image that will allow the iphones screen to be scanned.

there is one that is called membership card keychain or something. it does what you've described, but i heard it wasn't very accurate due to the nature of scanning an image of a barcode. i think the handheld scanners were ok, but the flatbed scanners were hit and miss.

There's a few apps out there, which have already been mentioned. My personal favourite is the Amazon app, which lets you scan anything and it'll immediately tell you its price on Amazon.com - great if you're trying to find the cheapest price on something.
