I read this on wiki "No stylus is needed, nor can an ordinary one be used, as the touch screen requires touch by something with the physical properties of bare skin to operate." I was wondering; would burn victim be able to use the iPhone? Someone who has a prosthetic hand?

Probably not a prosthetic hand, but I think any other heat signature should work.

Funny, I figured you would be the first to reply since you are our resident burn victim. :p

I dont see why a fake hand would work??? The screen is based on pressure sensitivity right?

I'm trying to find something with the right properties to work the trackpad, they don't work just on pressure, so far nothing I've tried works except except my finger....or cock.

It's capacitive, which means electrical fields, not heat or pressure.

So is there a stylus that'll work on it? What material should I be looking for? I'm asking because I have hulking great fingers and want to try some simple sketching stuff with a stylus on my trackpad.

Not to my knowledge... unless by "stylus" you mean "finger of the pretty young woman with slim fingers sitting next to you on the train/bus/plane/whatever." ;)

Would make for an interesting conversation though. "Say, could I borrow your lovely finger for a moment?" *SLAP* :(

My stove was touch and only a warm finger would turn it on the cat could walk all over it and never turned it on

Stove switches I think are just heat sensitive. I spilled boiling water from a pan and it pooled over the controls turning all the rings on, which is piss-poor design IMHO.

If the burn has healed with thick dead skin, then it might not work. Prosthetics won't either.

It might be possible to find or make a jerry-rigged stylus for capacitive screens, that perhaps has a wrist strap to conduct the charge through you. Let me look around. There's going to be more people who need it.

The iPhone isn't exactly a device for the disabled of touch or sight
