I just heard back from Rob at Barefeats. Says he should have the new 24" Imac in his lab by Friday, with speed comparisons posted as early as Monday. As we all do, he wonders why Apple didn't use the 2600XT instead of the Pro version.

For those of you wondering, the results are on the way!

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record complaining about Apple's conservative GPU choices...after reading some reviews of the desktop Radeon HD2600 PRO I'm a bit disappointed, though not surprised, that Apple failed to continue excellent trend they started with the previous combo of the 24" iMac/GeForce 7600GT. THAT was a nice spec overall for 3D games, but the new iMac will be less spectacular I'm afraid.

Can't wait to get the scoop from Rob-Art. ;)

Thats the combo that I have now, 24" imac and 7600GT. It really is a fairly fast machine and can play most every game, Mac or PC. Its a shame this new system won't match it.

instead to make the new imac thinner they could put a better GPU

thinner makes sense when it's comes to laptops and the old iMac was thin already, but why make it thinner that's a big question....
