I'd like to hear how the 21.5" models with 500gb drive and 9400m are doing. From what I can gather, from speaking to a couple of people who have one, this is not showing the problems reported here by owners of the 27". If you have the iMac with 21.5" with 500gb drive, could you tell us what brand of drive is fitted, and if it is very quiet (no Seagate !T "grumbling" for example)? Also, if you've encountered any screen problems etc.

I guess you could consider my HDD to be "loud and grumbly," and I can definitely hear it from time to time, but it's really not that big of a deal. It sounds just like any other ordinary harddrive if you ask me.

I think the hd sound problems are more along the lines of nitpicking than actual defectiveness in the products if you ask me.

I have the base model 21'.

I use it for Photoshop, Logic Pro, Traktor Pro, Ableton live, basic development of C++ and Java, Win 7 Pro VM and the usual surfing/skype etc

I played Rainbow Six 3 @ 1080p earlier and it was smooth as silk.

The hard drive is a western digital and I never hear it and the screen is perfect(contrary to my previous paranoia in another thread).

The CPU is the limiting factor so when playing games or running very heavy sessions in logic I normally close everything else, doing this stops any lag or audio glitches whilst still having very low latency settings.

I've got the base model 21.5" with a Hitachi drive.

It needed a logic board replacement as soon as I received it due to kernel panics when inserting headphones. It also has slight yellowing on the bottom of the screen, though no where near as bad as some instances posted here. The base model is not quite problem-free.

It's still the best computer I've had despite it being the low-end offering.

I have the base model with a 500 GB Seagate and 9400 Nvidia. It's extremely quiet so far! I just posted about my screen because my eyes are tired and I'm having trouble deciding. I guess that might tell me something if I haven't been bothered by the screen yet. I recommend this model!

mine came with a WD Caviar Blue 500GB and it's very quiet. 9400 nvidia, but I do a slight yellowish screen right side. Not a bother to me. Great machine!
