Hey all. (I hope this is the right forum for this.)
I'm brand new to several thing: Mac computer in general, an M1 Mac Mini and Final Cut Pro.
Been thinking about trying out a Mac for a very long time, especially since the M1. Finally decided to just finally buy myself a M1 Mac Mini from Costco so I can take advantage of A, the current sale price for a Mac Mini ($569) and also (If needed) their generous return period of 90 days.
In addition, I am trying out FCP, which is the primary reason I want a Mac to begin with. It's important to note 2 things about my video editing: 1. My footage is exclusively from an iPhone. (And as of the 12 and 13 Pro, the footage is HDR Dolby Vision. 2. The videos I am editing are strictly my families home videos. It's just a hobby, I enjoy editing, and just find them fun to make. But the videos are just for our friends and family. I have literally wanted to try FCP for years so this was my chance to finally do so.
So i setup a quick test so I can marvel at the speed of the M1...and it is not going well. I setup a basic project with about 2:30 of a few iPhone 13 Pro clips. I just dropped them on the timeline and did nothing else. I set a render out at 4K, HEVC, 10 bit with dolby vision. (essentially what the footage came into the project as) and began the export. It has been almost 25 minutes as of me writing this, and it's barely at 52% done! What the heck is going on? Do I have some major things set wrong?
Comparatively, while it was running, I quickly setup and equivalent test on my 2018 iPad Pro using LumaFusion. It look it less than a minute to export the same 2:30 minute clip in 4K HDR.
Please tell me if I have some kind of major setting wrong on FCP. I can't believe the rendering form the M1 would be this slow. Goes against everything I have heard.
Thank you.
