People thought otherwise? When has the most expensive model in a product line ever been the best selling?

As much as I love my iPad Pro, the 10.2” iPad is the much better bang for buck. It’s honestly one of the best deals in tech next to the Switch lite and the Raspberry Pi.

And water is wet....
Hardly surprising when Apple likely sell tens of thousands of them into the education market as well as the global consumer market. Then there's business, medical etc.

Google just didn't support Android tablets enough to create any incentive for developers to polish and improve their apps - so Apple has taken the tablet market. They seem happy enough to have Google search and YouTube etc on ipad to get their data and revenue.

The iPad 8th gen is a fantastic device at a great price. Truthfully the only thing Apple should add for the 9th gen is quad speakers and A14 processor.

We will never know for sure as they don't release actual sales break downs or figures, but in terms of market share for iPads, the Entry level iPad 8th Gen and the Ipad Air 4 probably make up 80% of sales, with the niche Pro models in the 20%.

I doubt the 9th gen iPad will have quad speakers. The Air hasn’t even gotten quad speakers yet, and it has plenty of superior features compared to the basic iPad. The basic iPad is expected to finally get a laminated display at least.

I know not to try to predict the processor, though. For all we know, it could get A14. I personally doubt it, since that would bring it up to speed with the current Air, but I suppose crazier things have happened.

10.2 design will only be 2 years old, the Mini on the other hand is a minimum of 6 (or more if the small changes in size don’t count.)

I would have said it’ll stay at A12 but get more RAM a la 7th Gen, but unless they up the Air and the Mini simultaneously, it’ll no longer be base in that regard. When we see what they do with the Mini, we’ll know whether they’re positioning it alongside the Air or the base, having been closer to the latter for the last year.

I am not surprised. The iPad 8 Gen is the best tablet at that price point. You get a lot for the money.

Here in the UK, the lower end iPads are ubiquitous in education, seen by schools as cost-effective, stable, easy-to-use and having longer term support than Android devices.

Some education trusts even went out and bought Gen 8 iPads for every child enrolled during 2020-21. The Pandemic has been a boon for tablet sales.

I am surprised anybody believed the Pro sold the most, these things are expensive and most people don’t really “need“ what the Pro brings. I believe it makes sense that the basic iPad outsold the others.

The basic iPad has the most balanced feature to price ratio and is offered on all sorts of deals e.g. in the middle of last year the network I am on was offering the 7th generation iPad with a Keyboard Case and Pencil in a special “pack deal” that cost less than what a 2020 iPad Pro was alone, I heavily considered that deal before eventually going with iPad Pro, I think most people would have just taken that deal as the basic iPad has all they really “need”.

Not sure many people ‘keep’ saying that, but yeah, no.. thanks for pointing out the obvious; a 350 quid tablet sells better than a 1000 quid one ?
In America the proper phrasing for made up stats is "A lot of people are saying...". Its amazing how many people you can trick by just throwing that in front of made-up facts.

Bang for buck, that’s a different story and which one outsells which other one is no proof of any such thing.
Bang for the buck is an interesting discussion because I just dont know anymore. I prefer the Pro but I rarely recommend iPad Pro because in the end then I've done some mid-level video projects and photo edits on both and I can do almost everything on a $300 iPad that I could on a $1000 Pro. And based on what I've heard then a lot of people are saying that $700 savings is a lot of money. ?

Same here, at least in my very limited experience (my daughter’s school district). They already provided iPads to all the kids 3rd grade through 5th (I’m not sure what middle school and high school kids are on), and then with the pandemic they gave them to kindergarten through second graders, too. Prior to the pandemic, they used iPads in the classroom for the younger kids but didn’t issue individual ones for kids to take home.

You can do anything on anything.

you can say the same for tablets, phones, computers … anything. Extra power doesn’t enable you to do something, per se. But extra power and extra features sure help and make what you are doing smoother or easier or whatever.

It’s whether the extra features benefit you in some way that matters, and whether it’s worth it to you. Bang for buck is pretty subjective.

I’m sure you’re sure, but it really depends on each person’s individual need. For me, the best screen on any mobile device is available for about a grand. That’s some pretty good bang for buck if that’s what you’re after.

Maybe you don’t know what best bang for the buck means...it’s not based on individuals
