I have a basic question that you long time mac users can probably answer with ease. Every time I download anything such as system icons, wallpapers, etc. and then drag them to the trash my memory decreases a bit. An example is I just downloaded an icon set and decided I didn't like it so I dragged it to my trash. My memory drops from 73.81 GB to 73.72 GB. This is very annoying because I can't test out some icons and then drag them to the trash without losing memory. Can someone please help? Thanks. (^_^)

Empty the trash? Putting them just into the trash doesn't permanantly delete them, you need to Control - click on the trash bin and hit "Empty" to really delete them. Also that's just what your memory does until you restart. If you find that it doesn't go back after you empty the trashcan, then just restart and it should go back. Let us know if it works. You're dealing with such little space that I wouldn't get too worried about it.

I know, I always get those two confused, SORRY! The restart idea might work. I was just wondering how come whenever I download a wallpaper or something and then delete it, I don't get that amount of HD space back. Is there some cache that I must delete or something? Thnx.

You haven't answered the question posed by D34th. Are you emptying your trash after you delete the file?

Simply putting it in the trash doesn't give you any space back...the file is still there and can be retrieved from the trash if you want it again. You have to empty the trash in order to regain the space.

Yes, I'm not that much of a noob. (^_^) It goes straight to my desktop when I download it, I drag it to the trash, emtpy trash, and my HD space is still a little bit lower than it was before. I was just wondering if this has to do with there being a cache or copy made of it that goes to some unknown location. (^_^)
