I'm just starting to explore the world of Kodi, I'm a plea user and like it but now seeing that koi is a bit more powerful, I'm thinking of picking up a mini to use in my living room, wondering how the current base model would handle the task of kodi and video playback. Will that model playing back even Blu ray rips well? If i could save a couple hundred i could use that money else where, currently i'm using a tiro but i could see changing over to using kodi and maybe a HD Homerun in the future. I was considering the new ATV but really for $300 more a mini can do so much more....

I used an el cheapo Mac Mini 1,1 (the old-shape one) 1.66 GHz CD with a firmware bump to 2,1, processor upgrade to C2D 2.33 GHz and a Broadcom CrystalHD card. Was good enough for direct BR rips. This setup didn't support anything newer than Kodi 14.2, so I eventually decommissioned it, but was extremely good.

It will handle 1080p just fine at any reasonable bit rate (including BR), though most folks would be frustrated by poor system performance due to the lack of an SSD. For Kodi it's not as critical, but as you start using it for other apps as well as just general system use and maintenance, the lack of SSD can be annoying.
