So my only smartphone experience so far is with the iPhone. But I wanted to confirm if the following is available on Android phones:

You start to type a reply (to a Macrumors thread) in the reply box. Midway through the reply, you want to delete what you typed so far. (Or cut it to the clipboard.)

Can you hold down your finger, then a prompt appears asking 'Select - Select All - Paste', and you simply choose 'Select all' followed by 'Cut'.

Is this available with Android phones across the board?

Thank you.

Yes. Just tested now. This works on my Nexus 6p (and Nexus phones usually have the least features). I would expect that this works on every Android phone.

Ok...that's a relief.

I use that feature quite a bit (mark a block of text followed by cut or delete) and it would have been horrible to find that it was an iOS exclusive.

By chance, does Android also have the shortcut of a double-space meaning to replace that with a period and a space?

Well it wasn't the copy/paste operation itself that mattered the most (I was reasonably certain Android offered it as well), but more about whether it was as easy to mark a block of text and then cut it to the clipboard as iOS made it.

I use that feature practically daily.

With the S8 unveil yesterday and the confirmation of the larger S8 size, the likelihood of buying an Android phone with my upcoming renewal in Sept is practically nil.

I'll either stay w/my 6s for another year or perhaps try the iPhone Edition if I'm not turned off by the larger (4.7" -> 5.2") display that seems to be the steady rumor.

@OP, not only can Android keyboards do what you're asking about, I wager you'll find the overall keyboard experience better than the iOS keyboard experience.

I don't know. Apple used to have the best copy and paste in terms of ease of use. It's not been as good as it once was for me. It depends on the android device I suppose. Some devices will be easier to do copy and paste and some not as easy.

The galaxy note has the s pen which makes it extremely easy.

This is the one thing I find to be the worst on my iPhone.
I HATE copying and pasting text as I just find it 'finnicky' on iPhone whereas Android I never had such problems.

I always put it down to the iPhones smaller screens compared to my Android devices but now on m 7 Plus I find it just as annoying.

Annoyingly it used to be really good on the iPhone. I don't know what happened but a few years ago it got really rubbish.

W/iOS, my experience is that marking a block of text (not selecting all text, just a block) is sometimes wonky.

It sometimes refuses to expand the selection though you try and try with your finger. There is a jailbreak tweak that helps a little with this, but it still doesn't work (or works poorly) sometimes.

Yeah it's when you want to select a specific piece of text. That's when it often doesn't work.
