Unplugged the phone from the charger at 8:30am. Battery was at 100%. Did a bit of surfing via wifi, then turned wifi off. Received a 10 min phone call. Left the house, turned on the iPod, listened to some tunes, surfed a bit more via EDGE, checked email once. Now it's 10:15am and I'm rapidly approaching 50%. I started writing this post at 60%.

Bluetooth off. EQ off. I realize that the battery meter isn't the final word and that the phone could well last the rest of the day, but for the first time I'm feeling like the battery might be an issue. Prior to this I've been too busy to notice, and always had a charger nearby.

Does this seem like abnormal battery behavior to anyone else? Thanks...

*UPDATE* 45 min after posting this, listening to music the whole time, the meter is still at 50%. Seems like the battery drains quickly at first then holds steady.

Im just curious, how often everyone charges their iPhones? my phone needs charging daily (charges while i sleep) and it never seem to charge completely (i've heard about the bug). Regardless, a couple hours of surfing the web through edge, roughly 2 - 2.5 hours, and my battery drains to about 10%. I keep my screen brightness at 50% and bluetooth is always disabled. Does that seem about right? Thanks!

Sounds like you have a bad battery to me.

I use my phone all night at work to listen to podcast, one or two video podcast, music, a few phone calls, scan some RSS feeds during breaks, read/respond to emails and when I get home I MIGHT be around 50%

This is maybe 10hrs time. I would talk to Apple if I was you.

Right, it could just be the software showing battery % is glitchy...but if it were my iPhone doing that, I'd take that sucker back.

Just remember the magic words!

umm thanks for jacking my Q.

Sorry about your troubles but I find them with my phone.

I will have a near full phone battery-wise and then it will shoot down to 75%-60%

It will then stay there for awhile and head downwards AGAIN to 20% quickly.

My wife and I both have iPhones and our batteries seem excellent.

Yesterday is typical for me, I am not a heavy user:
- 1 hr web browsing, 30 mins of talk time, maybe 15 SMS messages, BT off, WiFi on, watched 1.5 hrs of of movie before bed. Phone checks two POP mail accounts once an hour which I read if I am not in the office. Batt is about 60-70% when I dropped in in the dock to top off over night.

Wife talks 1-1.5 hrs a day on her phone, Sends SMS to her friends and checks and sends email (now leaves her laptop at home as she runs around town with the kids). She also tops off every day but can get 2+ days out of the iPhone.

We are quite pleased with the battery life considering the functionality of the unit.

Do not run it all the way down, top it off.

Thats really is wonderful to hear. I new something wasn't right. Sounds like im visiting my genius bar today! I don't really know what they'll be able to do for me though, because i leave for florida in a couple of days and then school the week after so im not in a great position to have them send it in. Thanks for your input, even if we did jack mcdj's Q.

I had this problem yesterday as well and I couldnt understand it all I was doing was listening to music I thought it was because the wifi was on. But at 50% i have the same issue of maintaining battery life well at that point

Sounds like im visiting my genius bar today!

Having read many suggestions to restore the phone to fix battery issues, I tried it last night. Today my battery life seems much better.

If you haven't done so already, you might give it a shot. Here in NYC where a genius bar visit is a serious time commitment, a half hour restore is the lesser of 2 evils, especially if it helps fix things.
