Just thinking how much SSD access influences battery cycles....which if does it may be another point to consider when choosing between 8gb vs 16gb RAM. I am thinking even though a light workflow is not affected by 8gb in terms of performance, it may affect the battery as the system uses more swap.

Anyone seen numbers on battery use of 8gb vs 16gb?

Thoughts?

I don't think a light work flow will impact battery, unless one had the brightness level turned up. The speed of the M1 is so fast, any peak in a very large swap would be momentary.

It looks like you are really overthinking the M1.

Thanks Robert... I just geek on these things, as you probably noticed I am a big fan of the M1s and completely happy with mine :). Just curiosity really... I mean unless Apple has figured out a way to get all three - cheap + fast + good - something has to give :).

I am with you on being a big fan of the M1. I can understand trying to make sure you have the right amount of RAM before the return period ends. I just didn't want to see you get so overloaded with M1 information and usage, that you get stuck in a intellectual loop and can't make a decision because you got overloaded. I have seen it happen a lot here.

If the M1 was a lady we just met, we would be married with kids in a week. lol

love the last line...??

going back, I am 100% decided on my choice, not returning anymore.... I like the performance I had when I tried different models with 8gb - the MBA base, the MBA 8/512, the MBP 8/512, but I really wanted the 16gb so I went for it....

Just curious and thinking about things :)
