The town without George Bailey
I got my new replacement battery for my G4 ibook. I charged the battery to full capacity to calibrate it. Do I have to actively use the ibook to bring it down to 0% for a proper calibration, or could I get the same effect by just letting it sleep until the battery dies?

Doing that means you'll be waiting a longer time than you would if you were using the machine.

I don't know...I wonder how you'd know when the battery had discharged enough to force it to go to sleep if it's already sleeping. It wouldn't really have an effect on the battery itself, but it could result in incorrect information being sent to the computer if it didn't get to fully discharge.

Just pop a DVD in there and let in run...it'll be dead in a few hours.
