It appears the mAh battery capacity information is no longer showing in either System Report nor third party battery apps ?

Do you think Apple has purposely hidden this info or is it something about M1 chips that doesn't allow this info to be available ???

You can still calculate it from Maximum Capacity percentage though:oops:

I have the same issue with my MBA M1. Used Battery health app also, again same issue.

This fact caught apple tech support off-guard when I was chatting with them yesterday (understandable since it was release day, but still thought I'd mention it). Made me send them a screenshot and everything to prove it, haha.

seems like these macs are only reporting the battery health with a percentage so third party battery apps take 100% to mean 100mAh.

You can get it from the terminal. It aint easy ...

Code:
ioreg -w 0 -f -r -c AppleSmartBattery

You'll get all kinds of info ... this is down towards the bottom.

"DesignCapacity" = 4382
"IsCharging" = No
"PermanentFailureStatus" = 0
"Voltage" = 12175
"UserVisiblePathUpdated" = 1605735091
"CycleCount" = 2
"AppleRawMaxCapacity" = 4281
"VirtualTemperature" = 3069

Yours is a brand new macbook and yet its 100mah less than full design capacity. Mine is below design capacity too.

I wonder if charging my phone at the same time caused a misread??
How is battery health on new MBA M1 with other owners?

Mine came with battery health hovering just below 100% and seems to stabilize around 99%. I haven't yet charged it (it came with battery about 80% full).

Just wondering if others seeing the same or do they have 100% or even over when new?

I checked my readings using free CoconutBattery program. Please try and comment what is shows?

Mine is 4347mAh / 99,2 (this is MBA M1 base configuration).
(Full charge capacity should be 4382mAh)
My previous MBP 2019 was still over 100% when it was over 1 year old!!! So this is a bit worrying to see new MBA already dipped below.

From System Info:
Power / Charge Information:
The battery’s charge is below the critical level.: No
Fully Charged: Yes
Charging: No
State of Charge (%): 100
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 5
Condition: Normal
Maximum Capacity: 100%

From Terminal:
Code:
~% ioreg -w 0 -f -r -c AppleSmartBattery

"MaxCapacity" = 100
      "InstantAmperage" = 0
      "GasGaugeFirmwareVersion" = 1
      "AdapterInfo" = 0
      "Location" = 0
      "Temperature" = 3006
      "AvgTimeToEmpty" = 65535
      "BestAdapterIndex" = 0
      "DesignCapacity" = 4382
      "IsCharging" = No
      "PermanentFailureStatus" = 0
      "Voltage" = 12940
      "UserVisiblePathUpdated" = 1607542239
      "CycleCount" = 5
      "AppleRawMaxCapacity" = 4344
      "VirtualTemperature" = 2739

Need to figure out why this:

pmset -g batt

returns different values

"DesignCapacity" = 4382
"IsCharging" = No
"PermanentFailureStatus" = 0
"Voltage" = 12938
"UserVisiblePathUpdated" = 1607543654
"CycleCount" = 5
"AppleRawMaxCapacity" = 4382
"VirtualTemperature" = 2839

its annoying because my 2018 MBP was 100% or slightly above for at least 6+ months.

Both seems pretty identical to mine. Anyone have this reading the same as Design Capacity or even higher? My MBP easily went and stayed over 100% for over a one year of use, so pretty odd brand new MBA already below (just like you say and compare to MBP).

BTW, you guys having issue with full screen black image having reddish glow with your MBA M1?

Hello folks, same issue for me. Let me share what I discovered.
  1. Screen Shot 2021-02-27 at 22.05.19.png
    Screen Shot 2021-02-27 at 22.05.36.png
  2. System Information -> Power (Maximum Capacity: 100%)
    Screen Shot 2021-02-27 at 22.08.23.png
  3. My old MacBook Pro 2020 Intel (Full Charge Capcity (mAh) : 4665)
    Screenshot 2020-10-18 at 19.23.11.png
  4. For M1 there is no Full Charge Capcity (mAh) instead that Maximum Capacity in %
  5. Going forward and run in terminal: ioreg -w 0 -f -r -c AppleSmartBattery
  6. And as you see there are no issues as well.
    Screen Shot 2021-02-27 at 22.12.24.png
  7. Run Apple diagnostic: no issues
    photo_2021-02-23_10-27-25.jpg
  8. By the way forgot to mention, I did not start with clean instal when had bought MacBook Air m1. I run through 'Assistance Migration' and restored from backup of my MacBook Pro 2020 on Intel
Conclusions: Looks like Alert triggered/triggering by the fact that it is looking in the field Maximum Capacity which is in % but parsing it as field in mAh. Hope Apple will fix that in 11.3 (in 11.2.1 not fixed)

Trick I've found to getting maximum or above maximum design capacity out of my devices is to fully discharge and recharge when the device is new then occasionally over time.

MBA M1

"DesignCapacity" = 4382
"CycleCount" = 6
"AppleRawMaxCapacity" = 4395

Ack, ty. Quick question, did you get the false-positive alert mentioned above?
