Hello,

my iPhone 11 is showing 99% battery capacity after installing 13.2 is anyone else’s done this ?

I’m certainly not expecting the battery to be showing 99% after just over a months use ?

Battery wear is not linear. Keep an eye on it. If you have a Mac (you do in your comments) get coconutBattery and monitor it over time. I've had some phones from the factory come at 96% and some at 108% of design capacity.

Thanks I will do.

do you think if I take it into the Apple store I could get it replaced under warranty as I don’t expect it to be wearing down this quickly after a months use, considering I paid nearly £900 for it (256gb model)

They won't replace anything that is >=80% while under AppleCare or AppleCare+. Apple basically guarantees >=80% capacity after 500 charges within 2 years I believe.

I wouldn't worry about 99%. Observe with coconutBattery. My iPhone 6s+ had 96% from factory and stayed that way for almost 2 years (observed weekly). My iPhone 6+ had 108% capacity and dropped to the upper 90s over 2 years.

Battery wear isn't linear. Only take readings at 100% charge. I wouldn't worry at all about 99%. I'd worry if it drops 98% in a few weeks, 97% in another few weeks. Otherwise, all is well.

Its totally random. My first gen iPad pro 12,9 I bought in january 2016 have a battery health of 76% and my old iPad air 2 bought in july 2015 have 84%...

Same with my phones. My old iPhone 6s plus never had a good battery from the start and my XS Max is still at 100% battery health after a full year, don't ask me why.

Indeed it is linear... my Xs Max, purchased on launch day in 2018, is also still at 100%... I use it all day, every day, and charge it wirelessly (Mophie) overnight every night.

I guess you're right. It is basically linear, lol. Capacity basically stayed the same in the year I owned my Xs MAX. Well, now I guess I gotta stop saying that. hah.

Same thing here. I charge my phone wirelessly every night no matter if its at 40%, 70% or 20%, so it just confirm to me that no matter how you use or recharge your phone it’s not that important for the overall health of the battery.

To an extent.

Heat kills batteries including lithium ion. Its the reason charging rate reduces at 80%. And the phone will shut off when left in a hot car.

Overcharging/constant peak charge isn't good for lithium ion batteries either. Apple actually just released 'optimized charge' to reduce the time at peak charge (100%).

I used to live in a area where it was hot most of the year. I would leave my iPods in the car on charge at that time and Apple warrantied the batteries because I could get it to <80% health over the course of a summer. It didn't leave my car so I didn't care much but I wouldn't do that with a 1000+ dollar iPhone.

At the end of the day if you aren't doing anything dumb I wouldn't change your habits because like you said, its not that important. Especially so if you consider you are inconveniencing yourself for a device that supposed to make your life more convenient.

yeah I had my 7 plus battery replaced in December last year and it’s still showing 100% now, was just a shock to see my new 11 showing 99% after just over a months use. I’m very careful with charging it and I’ve found I don’t really charge it often anyway as the battery lasts for a long time. Was just strange it was showing as 100% before the 13.2 update and 99% after.

nevermind I’ll leave it as it is and then just replace it in a couple of years anyway when it’s worn down a bit more.

I don’t get why people worry so much about what their Battery Health indicator says. It’s not 100 percent accurate anyway. If your phone works fine and you don’t have any other issues, just enjoy your phone and don’t worry about it until you see a noticeable difference in performance. My launch day XS is at 88% but it still works just fine and I can’t really tell any difference in performance between now and when I first got it. I’m not gonna worry until it the phone starts acting up.

And it's suuuuuper effective. /s

It just needs to learn your schedule probably. Updates and restarts and odd schedules can disrupt its learning. Apple would rather have it fail and charge to 100% then fail and you go out for work with 80%.

My schedule is all over the place but you can see it does work but its figures you out.

Screen Shot 2019-10-31 at 5.23.55 PM.png

My hours are random some days I leave at 4 some days I leave at 6. Just depends on how I feel. I was actually quite surprised it worked at all for me.

I did notice it did work a couple days after I went out at 2am to pick up a friend.

Mine dropped to 99% on the 13.2 update, but if I plug it into Coconut battery on the Mac it is actually still over 100% capacity. Mine is sitting at around 3112mAH - 3118mAH with a design capacity of 3110mAH

I've noticed iOS only seems to update this stat when a software update occurs (I may be wrong however)
My XR did the same, it dropped to 99% in iOS but was still over 100% on Coconut battery and interestingly when I DFU restored it to come off a beta due to an issue I had it went back up to 100% in iOS and stayed there until I sold it to my mate when I got my 11.

If you installed the update when the phone had less charge or it was cold or something that may have caused iOS to report it as lower than it actually is.

I would plug it into Coconut battery if you can as that seems to be much more accurate. For the record my iPhone 11 has 31 cycles on it from launch day which seems pretty high as I don't fully drain it often, but other than that the battery is still healthy.

My XS Max battery is still 100% health, bought in February 2019. I typically charge it only when I go to bed.

I updated to 13.2 the day it came out.

I've been using iOS 13 since the first beta and I get up at the same time every day. If it hasn't figured it out by now I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Agreed. Fairly disappointed with that optimized charging. But I’m sure they did it that way to try and keep the “I woke up at 80% and my phone died and it’s apples fault” accusations.

The battery health percentage is nothing more than an estimate that is not calculated on demand. So your 1 year old Xs still showing 100% simply didn't refresh the indicator yet.

People in this forums have to understand how LiIon batteries actually function, then they can stop worrying about losing capacity (because they age, more heat or cycles means faster aging). It's perfectly normal for your device to lose it's battery capacity over time, that's just how these ancient battery tech (by todays standard) works.

Apple is not going to replace your 1% loss iPhone 11 because that loss is perfectly normal under most circumstances.

That’s not accurate.

When I sold my 8 Plus it was at 97%. Reset content and settings in front of the buyer before handing it over and the capacity showed 98%.

My optimised charging is working well so far, that's why i was surprised to see 31 charge cycles on my launch day 11 already, especially as i rarely fully drain it.
31 cycle is high considering you have your phone for just over a month.
