I have a PowerBook G4 and its battery sucks. The original capacity was 4400 mAh and the current is down at 2560 mAh (58% of the original, coconutBattery told this wonderful information). The Mac is 25 months old. Is this battery depletion significant enough to get a replacement battery from apple?

Battery capacity lousy enough to get free replacement from apple?

My battery is in about the same shape as yours, except it's three years old. My laptop is still covered under AppleCare for another two months, but I'd say there's no chance in Hell that Apple would replace my battery for free. It wasn't even included under the recall plan 
coconutBattery says I've had 111 charge cycles. I also have applecare, so I thought that might help. I don't know.
Never say never. The last time my Early-2004 iBook (bought 3 weeks before the late-2004 model came out) was in for repairs, they replaced the logic board, hard drive and... battery! Maybe they felt sorry for me as it was 400-500 cycles in and could only hold a charge for 20 minutes. The paperwork didn't mention the battery being replaced nor was that the problem it was in for. It wasn't included in any of the recalls either. The only way I found out was it holding a normal charge and only having a few cycles on it. But as others have said, it's not officially covered by AppleCare when it gets old and used.

Have you calibrated the battery recently?
Anyway 58% for a two year old battery with 111 charge cycles doesn't sound too bad.
Apple won't replace batteries unless there's obviously something wrong ... my wife's MacBook had 1200mAh on "full" charge with only 30 recharge cycles (and it got worse after recalibration), and Apple replaced it.
can anyone tell me the serial #'s that are covered under apple to get a new PB battery under the recall??

Is it really that big a deal to spend $120 on a new battery considering you've already gotten two years out of a computer? It's not like you have to buy a new computer, and batteries are not made to last forever.
