Hi.

I've been googling for this all over the place, but I just can't seem to find the answer. I may suck at using the appropriate keywords...

My question: What is the battery capacity of the 3GS?

I know it is 3.7 V / 1150 mAh for the 3G model... that much I've been able to dig up, but not for the 3G S. It's sure driving me crazy!

Your help (and source of info if possible) would be much appreciated.

The folks at Rapid Repair did a take-apart on the iPhone 3GS shortly after its release, you can find that here.

On the battery removal image, you will find the following markings:

APN: 616-0434
VPN: APPLE-08-003-01(GG)
Li-ion Polymer Battery: 3.7V 4.51Whr

Since a watt is a volt-amp we can calculate as follows:

(4.51VAh)/3.7V = 1.2Ah*1000mA/A = 1200 mAh

I'm guessing it's essentially the same battery. There are only two significant digits in this calculation.

Thanks a million! From your reference, I've been able to pull up the following information as well.

According to this site, the battery is rated as 1250 mAh, so it is slightly bigger than the 3G battery.

Well, I don't know how accurate the numbers on the battery are; a 1250 mAh 3.7V battery would be 4.625 Wh, not 4.51. If you assume the figures on the battery are accurate to four digits (doubtful), that still gives you only a 1219 mAh rating. They seem to have rounded up on that site.

That's true. That also makes me wonder how accurate the number on the 3G battery (1150 mAh) is. It could have been rounded up from 1110 or something as well!
