Hi all,

I have bought an iPhone 3G a little over a week ago and just recently the battery has died on me without any notice (in fact the battery indicator had shown a full battery). This happened to me last night while I was playing a game... it looked like I had a full battery (which I thought was a little strange given how long I'd been playing for) and then all of a sudden the battery is dead, no notice or anything. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something wrong with my phone?

Thanks everyone!

I've been having a similar problem. Happened first about 3-4 weeks ago, was out in London where GPS was proving very useful and listing to music. Put it away for a while, next time i look the 'connect to power supply' icon is showing. I didn't get a 20% or 10% battery warning. Didnt have another problem for a few weeks but increasingly over the last 2 weeks it will suddenly show the icon when I know its got loads of battery left. Sometimes within a few mins of a full charge. Plugging it in to a power supply for a few seconds will sometimes get rid of the screen and it will all of a sudden be back with full battery, sometimes it randomly decides on its own that it now has power agin.

Is this a hardware problem, do I need to replace it?
Thanks for any advice

Since getting your iPhone have you charged the battery to 100%, drained it completely, and charged it back to 100%?

If this persists, you may need to contact Apple since your iPhone is not displaying the correct battery info.

I haven't done this. Is this necessary? I thought this wasn't something that needed to be done anymore.

Thanks!

Apple recommends cycling the battery once a month.

Use iPhone Regularly

For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
