Battery drain tips?

hey guys, so im on ios5 with my iphone 4, battery life isnt so good, i mean, i disabled ping, most notifications, what could it be?

in notifications i only have weather widget and 5 recent emails.

my email is set to manual without push.

brightness is less than half.

did i miss anything?,

It depends on what you mean by "not so good". Some other common causes: weak cellular signal, weak wifi, location based reminder (location services on), "corrupt" application. Try turning the phone off and back on. And consider a genius appt.

You already did some good steps, but most folks use those without killing the battery too fast.

I have had battery issues since I upgraded. Recharging my phone twice a day on average where before I could go 36hrs between charges. I just did a restore from my latest backup and now my battery life is back to normal. Over the last 40 min it has only dropped 1% and before the restore I was losing about 10-12% an hour. Hope this helps.

How do you do this?

Try signing out of your iTunes account on your iPhone. That helped my batter drain problem on on of of the other iOS Updates.


Also has anyone seen a thread somewhere on what to do / turn off with iOS 5 to save battery life?

If you want to drain your battery, download Waze and leave it running. Won't take long.

Or, did you mean to stop draining? Double-click Home to get into multitask screen, then tap+hold an app, then delete all of them. Everytime I get a drain, this helps. Trying to narrow down which apps are culpable, but it's hard, I use too many, and it seems like it is app glitches rather than certain apps always draining. (except waze)

when i go to icloud in settings, it says my email address in the top but everything is off including the icloud backup and all that stuff

Btw this is a fresh restore that i did, not from a backup or an update or anything, completely fresh restore and i get these battery drainage, before it was so good, now when i use it it drains faster than before

Thats what I'm saying. It won't work unless you are on a power source. Im not getting the best battery life so far idk why. I'm going to reset my phone (shut it off then on) don't want to deal with re wipe and re putting everything back on the phone.

Same here. At first I was disappointed, but then I realized that it is getting 200% more usage that usual. I'll wait to see how it is during the week when I am busy working and not playing with the phone every waking moment.

After using smartfones for quite a few years now and on getting a new one i became despondent after the first thought being what do i have to turn off to save battery power !

Defeats the object of the features.

My iPhone 4 easily gives me a full days use with all features activated. I use the internet 2-3 hours throughout the day and receive around 100 e mails a day.

Texts are around 20 per day and around 20 mins ish of calls.

Screen brightness is set just over the second 's' in the brightness banner.

I don't listen to music or watch videos on it tho.

After using a Nokia n900 for a year which dies before the day end with the same approx use I can fully appreciate my ip4 with ios5 on it.

Guys enjoy the phone to its fullest capabilities or downsize to a series 40 Nokia !

Reading threads about people who watch the battery percentage reading drop as they use their phone just makes me roll my eyes.

I appreciate everyones usage is different and if you feel the battery is way below average then seek help from an apple genius.

Im just championing the side of the fence in not turning everything off on the phone !

So I've been twice to the apple store about this -- they are completely stumped. Their "diagnostic" program tells them that my battery is "functioning normally".

I've disabled all iCloud features.

I've disabled weather and stock notifications.

I've turned off location services for any apps that I don't care about and I am careful to ensure that the little arrow in the top right corner (indicating that gps is running) is not on unless I am currently using an application that needs it (e.g., google maps).

I don't have mail coming to my phone.

Yet the battery drains 25% per hour no matter what I do. The apple store folks seem completely stumped.

Unfortunately it's out of warranty (by 5 days) and I don't have apple care. I seem to be out of options but a phone that dies in 4 hours is close to being a brick.

If anybody has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Have you restored to factory settings and then re-setup from backup? The other option is restore and then setup as a new phone.

I had batt life issues on both my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2. The iPad I did the restore and it seems better. The iPhone I'm giving away and just restored it but haven't used it yet.
