I'm considering purchasing a 250gb 5400rpm bus powered drive for use with my 2.2 MBP 160 7200rpm.

I was wondering if anyone had an accurate estimate on how much this would affect the MBP battery. If the effect is considerable then I will purchase a desktop external drive.

Also, I need an external drive for running pro tools/logic sessions. I'm not knowledgeable on what speeds this requires. Will a 7200/5400 drive do, or will I need a faster firewire drive at an obscene price? 7200 works fine on my desktop PC, but I have no idea if it'll be ok with a bus powered external.

Thank you

I've got an Iomega 2.5" 160GB USB powered hard drive and it doesn't affect the battery too much.

I've never done tests on it for a good estimated time, but I reckon I can get 2+ hours out of it still.
