iPhine SE. Had no problems today but since updating to 13.2.3 a week ago my battery usage seems to have increased considerably. Before the update by bedtime I still had half a battery charge left, now it goes flat by the evening.

Could something be running in the background causing this? I regularly double click button and clear all the open stuff.

Is it just a coincidence or is the battery dying??

Thanks

Try turning it off and on again, perhaps even wiping it and restoring from new. If the battery hasn’t ever been replaced before, check the battery health.

The only time I had a battery replaced was a good few months ago for an iPhone SE but rather than do the battery they just have me a new phone. That might not be the same experience for you but you never know.

Have you checked the battery section in settings to see what's using up the battery? Also, what's the battery health that shows up there?

It's not just the iPhone SE. My two 6s' also have parasitic drain problems even with all the apps closed out since upgrading to 13.2.2. BTW, battery health reports the maximum capacity is at 92%

85% capacity isn't all that good so that is likely contributing to the battery not lasting as long. That aside, it looks like you have some location services in use based on the location arrow in the status bar -- might be good to check on what's using that and perhaps see if you really need that given that location services can have a noticeable impact on battery. You might also want to turn off background app refresh if you have that on to see if that makes a difference. And you can also try using Low Power Mode if you are OK with it at least to see if that also makes a noticeable difference or not.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the iOS update. It must just be going since it is old

My battery max capacity is 71%. I never had need to check this prior to IOS 13 ( the reason I am now here ).

I have a 6S plus which is the best iPhone I’ve ever had , particularly in respect of battery life . I’d get a days use the day prior to upgrading to IOS 13.

Immediately after upgrading I experienced battery issues:
Leaving my car with 100% battery , using maps to get to my destination and having my phone die within 5 minutes .

Phone reporting 70% then 0% after rebooting itself . Back to 60+ after a soft reset .

IOS 13 should not have been released for the 6S plus . Nothing has been done to
Resolve this issue . I’m unable to roll back to IOS 12 , so I can only assume that the issues experienced with IOS 13 on a 6S plus is deliberate.

I have heard people say this before that Apple purposely target older phones with upgrades that slow them down, and I have always dismissed this. However ,this is the first handset that I have hung on to after being eligible for a upgrade and experienced a perfectly good phone with great battery life , turned into a phone that needs to be charged every 2 hours .

71% capacity is fairly bad for lithium-ion. If you want to keep using that device your best bet would likely be to get the battery changed.

To be fair, that health number is pretty meaningless. It's more a measure of age and a good way for Apple to judge repair claims.

Mom has a 6S with 65% showing under that but it still gets a day or so standby.

Try turning background refresh off. if your location symbol is always on that can cause issues as well. I get a day or two standby from my 6S and i was getting just a day with all that enabled.

The day before I upgraded to IOS 13 my battery would get me through the day ?

I always say 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. If your battery gets you the results you want, just ignore that stupid 'health' number. Part of me wishes Apple never added it. It was likely to settle the whining of the BatteryGate folks.

I have never needed to change a battery on any Apple product ever; they excell at high lifetime on non-removable batteries (while my Android stuff konks out a year or two later meaning trips to Batteries+ all the time). I got a 9 year old iPhone 4 that in the condition it's in is likely on its original battery and it can still manage at least a day on charge.

I have the same experience with an SE and a 6S, both with over 90% battery health. After IOS 13, they can't make it through the day, often dead after a few hours of light use.

I spoke with apple support this morning (via chat support) who denied that the issue is anything to do with IOS 13 and was 100% due to battery health. Even after I advised that the handset was fine the day before upgrading to IOS 13 (it really wasn't an upgrade).

The support opp I spoke with said that they were convinced that a new battery would resolve my problem. I asked if there was anyway to say the chat transcript , to be told it would be emailed to me ( it hasn't ). I was keen to keep this as evidence should Fridays planned battery replacement turn out to be a waste of money.

Fingers crossed

I get max three days but average two on my 6S running 13.3. I like 13 myself. A welcome change from the iOS 7 look by far. Especially at night. Makes me crave an X or 11 since the bottom bezel kinda doesn't look like it belongs on a 6S; software looks like it wants a seamless bottom.

There is definitely something going on here! My 6S had a similar problem with battery life after updating to 13.?.? - I can't remember which one. Apple said to replace the battery, which I did. I haven't had a chance to try it fully yet (I did what I think Apple wants us to do and bought an iPhone 11). Either its some setting some of us are using which is running the battery down quickly or (conspiracy theory coming) Apple are being very clever (naughty) with something. I would hate to think it is the latter, but they have been accused of similar previously.

There's dark mode in iOS 13, but the overall look/design in general is still based on that which was introduced in iOS 7.

For some if not many that's certainly the case, for others who use theirs devices more and/or for longer a battery replacement at some point down the line has benefited them.

Dark mode yes but some of the icons have gotten a more 'surface' to them (Find My, App Store, etc) that is obviously different than iOS 7. The Books/iBooks has 'hardcover' looking books now, Not sure if that's from iOS 11 or 12. I came back to Apple quite recently. The transparency appears more thought out vs. the shower frosted glass I recall 7 having. I only just got an Apple Watch (two, actually.) and there's a neat animation when you use Apple Pay where the card flips out and has a shiny appearance during the flip out, kinda skeuo there too.

MacOS definitely has some skeuo love. The gradients have returned a bit to the title bars, more pronounced in dark mode, the dynamic wallpaper is neat, and there's deeper drop shadows between overlapping windows. the icons in the dock i wish were the default iOS icons though. The TouchBar has buttons that look like buttons and not simply colored text. The buttons on MacOS dialogs also have a button shape.
