Hi folks,

So I'm currently running the latest version of the iOS 10 Public Beta on an iPhone 6s.

However, over the past day or so, I've noticed my iPhone (6s) battery has become dire.

Nothing has changed in terms of the PB build, and this issue has cropped after being on the latest version for a few days. Up until this point, I've have minimal issues with bugs/crashing/battery life etc...

Fully charged, and in Low Power Mode, when left overnight on standby, the battery went from 100% to 51%... No location services or background app refresh was on (due to being in LPM)

While I'm aware it's still a beta, my concern is that the battery life has reduced significantly despite nothing changing on my phone. The latest version of the PB was fine up until a couple of days ago.

I've tried a hard reset to no avail, so I am strongly considering wiping and restoring back to iOS 9.3.

Just wondered if any folks here had any thoughts/advice before I do it!

Cheers.

Yesterday while I switched to low power mode (LPM) after reaching 20%, I have noticed that my battery was draining like crazy on standby. Like from 20 to 13% in just one hour, which is definitively not normal on LPM. When it reached 8% I decided to reboot the device and plug it in to recharge the battery.

I don't know, maybe the LPM is buggy. I will check this the next time I use it, but so far it just happened once on PB3 so I am not going to go back to iOS 9, especially because the PB4 is getting closer and may solve a lot of issues.

Interesting! and somewhat reassuring that I'm not the only one... But yeah, I'm wondering if it's tied to LPM, as this morning I just used the phone like normal without turning on LPM and the battery (almost) seemed regular again.

Screenshot on app battery usage?

Yep, it amazes me how every single battery life complaint, I mean everyone...
They write paragraph after paragraph about how they don't even look at the phone during the drain, but they never mention what the batter usage is telling them.
A section in settings designed to explain exactly what they are looking for.

I'm not saying there isn't an issue but if your battery is draining, the usage will tell you the culprit most of the time.

Yes, I looked at the battery usage to see what applications were using the most juice, but nothing that was out of the ordinary, and therefore didn't mention it in the post.

And likewise... I usually dismiss the battery posts that show up everyday in these forums! The LPM also doesn't seem to be the issue, even when not in LPM, the battery stills drops absurdly fast while the phone isn't doing anything

Yes, but what does it actually say? What is using the most %

Do you think it is reporting it incorrectly? It can be a 3rd party app that doesn't close correctly in ios10.

Phone is currently at 24%. Usage at 20min, Standby at 7h, 10m.

Top 3 apps:
Twitter is at 26% after 10 min on screen, 1 min on background
Spotify is at 22% after 1 min on screen, 13 min on background
Overcast is at 14% after 2 min on screen, 33 min on background.

Doesn't seem right to me...

Any chance it could be the physical hardware and the battery potentially failing/dying? I'm assuming it is software related though, and iOS 10 PB is the culprit, just weird when it started happening.

Did you try Resetting All Settings? It sometimes fixes the problem without removing all your data.

Are you using wifi sync via iTunes?

Today everything was fine with the battery at the office or in town, but then back at home, again, a sick drain out of nowhere, 6% in 30 minutes while the phone was sitting on the sofa (LPM was not ON, battery was around 60%). Nothing abnormal reported in settings > battery.

Since PB3 was released I noticed that iTunes on my Mac cannot connect wirelessly to my iPhone. The iPhone appears in Itunes, but stay grey and unclickable and then disappear after one or two minutes. If I relaunch iTunes, same thing happen. And when I connect it via USB, it sometimes say that it can't read the content of the iPhone. I managed to perform a sync via USB but then, again, when trying to see the iPhone in iTunes wirelessly, it's grey and then disappear. I tried to reset network settings, resetting wifi, etc, no fix, so I turned off the wifi sync for now until PB4 is released.

Maybe I am wrong, but maybe both device are trying to reach themselves indefinitely and it cause a silent drain for the phone. Let's see if it's better with the wifi sync turned off. I will let the phone on standby and LPM during the night and see if there is some sick drain again...

iphone 6s, public beta 3.
I have had some very similar experiences with bad battery. And Twitter (official App) is the top in my chart with similar disparity about how much better vs little time on screen.
For the time being I am using a 3rd party twitter app to see if that helps.
Of course I am currently watching the phone upgrade to public beta 4 so there goes the scientific method.
