I got my MBP yesterday, calibrated the battery last night and noticed (from iStat) that the battery health is 96% (and the battery charge is at 100%). Is the health an indiation of wear? If so, is 96% for a new laptop normal? Thanks.

96% health for a brand new machine? I'd call that 'acceptable' but not quite 'normal'; surely it should be 100% health for a new battery in a new machine. Maybe try re-calibrating it.

Try not to drain you battery to 0% every time, it kills it fast. Keep it as cool as possible, i.e. take it out of the computer when it is plugged in to mains power. Do both of these things and your battery should last a good few years.

You're not saying the same thing ("every time ... why not? ... once every 2 months").

Apple do recommend the one-to-two monthly drain/recharge as liketom said.

Is there any data published about regular full drain/recharge cycles killing the battery?

Is this normal? I have done 9 cycles, two which ended up be the calibration method. First calibration was on purpose, the second was a mini one. It just happend to die when I was about to go to bed, and I didn't want to leave the charger plugged in for so many hours. thinking it was a bad thing. but anyway, maybe battery is at 95% health.. yesterday was 96%. I have had the laptop for maybe about a week. when i got the battery it was 98% health... Coconut battery said it was 4 weeks old, so im guessing thats when the battery was first put in?

Overcharging a battery will harm it. Your Mac laptop has mechanisms in place to prevent overcharging. Treat the machine well as outlined in this thread and it won't happen. :)

then whats all this "over charge" i hear with all these battery powered devices?

your macbook will automatically stop charging when it is fully charged. if you have coconutbattery it'll even show that it is no longer charging when fully charged and your macbook will just run off of the power adapter.

I think my MBP SR started out at 96% health and after 4 cycles went to 100%.

My battery stays at 98% with my AC plugged. Yesterday, it went to 100%,.... is this normal? I just got this MBP SR 1 week ago.

yup thats normal.

the question here is about battery health - I've had my mbp for two plus weeks and my health on istat still says 100%....

2 Month old MB at 94% health

I have had my 2.16 Ghz for about two months now and coconut says that my battery health is down to 94%. What gives? Battery life is decent I guess but the health has been ever decreasing since the day I got it when it was at 5180 mAH, now it sits at 4903 mAH.

As you can see from below, It only has 6 cycles!

When you take your battery out while plugged in, your mac will run at 1ghz not 2.2.
