Have a early 2015 MacBook Air. Just watched a YouTube video on charging that recommended against keeping it plugged in all the time - which is what I do. So about four or five hours ago (when it was at 100%) I unplugged it. Then just now I got a warning that it was at 8%!! Then turned on my Battery Health 2 app and read the following: health 78%, current max 5553 may with a original max of 7150 Mac, 165 cycles, 5.4 years old, macOS health status is "check battery". Have I messed up the battery by keeping it plugged in? (Others have said that that is okay.) Any idea what health status of "check battery" means? Is health of 78% bad or just normal for the age?

Batteries degrade over time no matter what, there are lots of posts here and also lots of different opinions.
I think 78% on a 6+ year old laptop is quite normal.
If you want to, bring it to Apple to replace the battery, not sure how much they charge you (I thin it’s 199 but could be 299).
But since you mostly use it plugged in, how important is longer battery life to you?

Thank you! You brought that needed nugget of reason - I mostly use it plugged in like a desk top, so I guess battery life is not that critical.

there
Most likely replacing the battery on the macbook air 2010 after 11 years, soon
but will use OWC which has a mark down And a healthy voltage per hour.
these are very easy to replace especially on the macbook air
and they even provide a calibration video to enhance the battery life.
