I think the latest battery update destroyed my battery.

Previously, coconutBattery battery would show 90-93 percent capacity after 70+ load cycles. Now the capacity is down to 73%.

Further, my battery status keeps changing from charged to calculating charged to calculating charged to calculating....it's driving me nuts!

Should I take it to store?

and yes, I have calibrated it. twice actually.

can I just call apple and have them send a new battery to me?

I won't be able to drive to the store for a long time.
college finals.

Yes, I believe you can. Generally, they'll send you any user-replacable part, and once you make the swap, you'll place the old part in the box, tear the top label off and send it back (at Apple's expense).

It's very simple.

Sounds like me. My battery wasn't doing too well, but the time-remaining estimator would always take an initial guess at around 2.5 hours, then after about 45 minutes it would die. It rated the health at 87%.

After the update, it rated the health at 30%, and correctly displayed that I would only have 45 minutes of battery time from the start.

I called apple (don't have applecare) and explained the situation. I'd calibrated twice, installed the update, still had it have very short life. They sent me a new battery which should be arriving tomorrow. :)

I had the same experience just this morning.

I called Apple, explained what was happening, and a new battery is now on its way!

Good luck..
