Like a lot of people, I've been having very poor battery life. Perhaps 2 hrs usage + 10 hours standby. The Usage monitor (under Settings) has never activated despite the battery supposedly having a full charge (i.e. when the battery icon in the upper right corner changes from the lightening rod to the plug).

Previously I had tried: (1) draining the battery completely and then doing a full charge; and (2) reinstalling the software. Neither made a difference.

I took mine to the Genius Bar today and guy in front of me was having the same problem. The tech replaced both of our phones, no questions asked. He switched out my sim card and I walked away with new 8 gig. I need to sync with iTunes to unlock, but don't need to reactivate.

Bottom line, I think some phones just have bad batteries.

Apparently switching out your sim does NOTHING for you. I got a new phone today and I had to go through the entire activation process. There was nothing on my sim at all.

had the same issue with similar usage times and standby along with the indicator saying it was a full charge. they swaped out mines aswell. looks like there is a problem with batteries.

Successfully synced new phone

Apple genius switched out my sim card and I walked away with new 8 gig. I need to sync with iTunes to unlock, but don't need to reactivate.

Update on setting up my new phone:

Plugged new iPhone into computer for first time. iTunes told me that another iPhone had previously been synced with this computer and gave me the option of setting up a second iPhone or restoring the old data to the new one.

Selected to restore old data to new one. A minute later all of my contacts, email setup, etc. are back. I needed to re-enter my wireless password and voicemail password. I did need to tell iTunes to re-sync photos / songs / videos.

at&t activation happened in the background, and a message came up (on my phone) after a few minute saying that my phone was activated with at&t network.

Now just waiting for a full charge so I can go back to work.

Edit: Success: full charge. So that's what the battery is supposed to look like.
