Battery life improvements?

I watched the keynote live, but didn't hear any mention of any battery life improvements with Yosemite. I know when Mavericks was announced, longer battery life was one of the big things they mentions.

Does anyone know if Yosemite will be bringing any more battery life improvements? As long as it doesn't actually hurt battery life I'm happy, but any improvements are always welcome.

I can only recall the part where Craig mentioned that HTML5 video playback will last 2 hours longer at 1080p (Netflix) in Safari. With the exception of this, I don't think there'll be any major battery improvements. That was a Maverick's thing

Not sure if the OS updater did some cleaning up and this is the result of it, but I can definitely see some battery life improvements. It may not be true and I maay be completely off, but it looks like this new OS has some kind of sleeping/lazy screen feature to save the power. When you don't scroll in Safari for some time, it decreases the focus on it, so when you decide to scroll again, for a second it stutters abit, then "wakes up" and scrolls again smoothly.

I'm confident that there will be some battery life improvement brought by a more optimized backend in the OS, but for DP1, I'm noticing severely impacted battery life (from 12 to 4 hours) at the moment. I'm going to leave the thing on all night to make sure it finishes indexing (I can't tell if it still is) and then make the decision to downgrade after that.

So far on beta battery life has been quite terrible. REMEMBER IT'S BETA- so no surprise. But I hope as betas progress battery life does improve. I have a 2013 Macbook Air and on Mavericks it lasted around 11 hours. with Yosemite- below 7 hours.

Yep, I second this. I have a 2013 Air and I was getting 12-13 hours of battery life on Mavericks. So far with Yosemite I have around 7 hours.

DPs contain always a lot of debug code. That makes the apps/frameworks slower and requires additional energy and CPU cycles.

Wait for the GM version!

Battery life has pretty much halved (rMBP Late 2013) but I'm sure it will keep improving over the coming months. After all this is only DP1.

Just like with all previous betas I have had on my test machines, battery life is no where near as good as on official releases.

On Mavericks I got about 11-12 hours battery life.

On DP1 about 4-5 hours.

DP2 9-10 hours.

I noticed in DP1 Safari was wasting a ton of power and was extremely unstable, often crashing my entire OS and forcing a reboot. In DP2, so far, it seems considerably improved. All this is expected of course.

I'm running a 13-inch MacBook Pro manufactured in October of 2011. My battery's gone through 942 cycles and according to Battery Health I'm at 91% in terms of capacity.

With DP1 I noticed my battery would drain A LOT faster than with Mavericks and DP2 it's improved but Mavericks still had optimal performance.

I'm using Yosemite as my only OS (Because I'm a risk-taker...also everything important of mine is on externals or in the cloud and what I save on my computer isn't much important stuff) but I might consider jumping down to Mavericks...or doing a clean install when the Public Beta is available.
