battery life is horrible

i apologize for not keeping up with the forums for the past few months but i have a slight issue. i have an unlocked 3G running 3.0. i went on cydia a few months ago and it said i needed an essential upgrade, so i downloaded. ever since then it seems like my batter life is horrible. anyone else having this problem and if so, does anyone have the solution? thanks in advance.

What kind of stuff do you have downloaded/run frequently?

nothing new, i only turn wifi on at home and i text alot, USA today, stocks, thats all i really use. i dont have many apps at all. less than 2 pages.
