Hi!

I'm using MacBook Pro 15" mid 2012 and now considering switching to a 2015 model.
(exhausted waiting for a new Skylake model)

Apple says on its website that 2015's battery life is 9 hours while 2012's is 7 hours, but I wonder how much the difference is in real use.

Any thoughts from users who've had or used both models? Thanks in advance!

I guess you'll get 9 hours instead of whatever your degraded battery does nowadays, right? My 2014 model gets a solid 7-8 hours with its 98% battery health. You can check yours with Coconutbattery.

Skylake could be coming in the summer, probably as a mid 2016 model. Might be worth the wait if they change the design, but you'll never know. At least Skylake will arrive this year for sure...

To be honest the difference between the 2015 and 2012 is negligible apart from battery life and skylake should give another boost to battery it is worth waiting for from that model.

Apples battery times are surprisingly accurate if you test them using their criteria, in fact review testing often finds battery life on a new machine better than Apple says on light test methods.

Thank you for your comments. Maybe I'd better keep waiting for Skylake, given that the battery life of 2012 and 2015 is not that different.

Keep in mind battery life is dependent upon what you're doing. Email, surfing the web (without Flash installed) with Bluetooth disabled and the screen dimmed, you'll get 9 hours.

But...fire up something like Photoshop, FCPX, or something that uses horsepower, it'll go down really fast.
