What kind of battery life is everyone getting from their iPhone?

I've made 5-6 phone calls today, listened to 8 songs, watched a 2 minute video, browsed via EDGE for a total of around 25-35 minutes and my battery is a little above 1/2 full after a full night's charge

We did a multiple round, real-world battery usage test and had some excellent results, as compared to other smart phones.

Over what period of time are you talking about? I listen to my ipod for music pretty much all day from the time I leave my house in the morning until i get home in the evening about 10 to 12 hours. Take or make about 15 phone calls a little web browsing, a little of this and a little of that. When I put it into its cradle for the night it ussally has about a quater battery left. I have never run the battery dry. I think the battery life is pretty good considering everything I use the iphone for. As long as it last the whole day and i can do what I want with it I'm good.:D

wow 3 days, thats pretty good.

I usually get about 7 hours of usage out of one battery if i let it go down all the way. Mostly safari- 3/4 wifi 1/4 EDGE, maybe 30 minutes of phone calls, no ipod or texting. Brightness at around 1/3 with auto-brightness on, wifi off when im not using it, and ask to join networks setting off. Also bluetooth off all the time.

I read your test results, and have one comment. I believe that the "standy" time displayed on the iphone screen also includes the usage time in the numbers........so you can't add onto the standby time the usage time, because you will be double counting the usage time.

Cool, thanks for checking it out. I believe you are right, but am not certain, in terms of how the iPhone is actually breaking down the usage times. That is the reason the stand-by & usage times were listed separately (as presented by the usage section of the iPhone), leaving the reader free to draw their own conclusions.

That said, the real-world aspect of the test is still valid in that the iPhone battery life was tested/shown to have exceptional capacity, for everyday typical usage... with "typical usage" being the actual usage pattern for the tester/owner of the iPhone.

This was the goal of the test and sharing the information is the goal of the post. Thanks again for checking it out.

I think in your written "summaries" after each test, you were combining the two.

With that said, I agree, my own experiences with real world usage is very much in line with your test results. All in all, i am more than pleased with the iphone battery life, and that was my biggest concern prior to purchasing one.

You're right. Not being sure about the method behind Apple's own madness, that's why I presented all three numbers; the Usage, the Stand By and the (potential) Combined number.

ok guys i have a question,
the first time I chaged my iPhone the battery went low after couple of hours...and i waited and drained the batery until the iPhone is dead, and I charged it again last night and I just unplugged it now and I checked the battery life and it says the Standby time is 2hrs and 15 min. is that normal?...pls help. and Usage is about the same 2 hrs and 15 min.

The people here can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the standby and usage things have anything to do with time left. I believe it is like how much time the phone has spend on standby since last re-charge or last full re-charge and the usage is the same idea as well.

By the way... speaking of battery life... I use my phone a bit and only charge it every 2 or 3 days :)

Care to define "a bit"? As in "very little" Or was there a "quite a..." missing? If it's the latter, I need to take mine for an exchange because at most I get a day and a half off of one charge - and that's not even using the iPod portion all that much.

I guess clarification is in order, fair enough. I probably surf online at least an hour per day, on YouTube quite a bit, not sure of exact times, at least 30 minutes... I don't make many calls though. Check email and respond a few times a day. I use the iPod an hour or so per day music and video. I guess perhaps many may not consider that much and of course some days its a bit more or bit less usage. Just kinda giving a rough estimate of daily usage.

I usually use everything for about an hour a day (1 hour of edge, 1 hour of ipod, 1 hour of internet) with constant unlocking to check for mail and I have to charge every other day. I dont know if this kind of battery life is good or not since this is my first smart phone.
