Battery meter is incorrect

The battery meter on my iPhone 5 is not correct. Last night my phone died when the meter said it had over 50%. Today the meter got stuck at 100% until I rebooted it and is now stuck at 96%.

Before I purchase a new battery, I just want to be sure that this issue is with the battery and not the phone itself. I would think that the meter was a function of the phone by measuring the voltage or maybe just counting down the usage time and estimating it, but I am not sure.

Try a restore before anything. When the setup screen comes up, do it as a new phone, not from backup.

It may not work, but you may want to calibrate your battery. Fully charge your phone and let it die multiple times until the battery meter is accurate.

Have you tried taking it to Apple to see if it qualifies for the iPhone 5 battery replacement program? You are having the same issues I had when I had an iPhone 5 and apple replaced it on the spot.

I did that 6 months ago and found that it didn't qualify, so I replaced the battery myself using the iFixIt kit.

Before ordering a new battery kit, I just want to be sure that it's not the phone. If it's the phone, I'll just wait a couple weeks and get the new 6S.

Maybe its the battery you bought. OEM or some cheapo from another source, not Apple.

Have you tried using one of the battery capacity apps and seeing what capacity your battery is at now?
