Anyone know what might cause this?

My battery was at 17%, clicked over to 16% and I got the "20% battery life remaning" notification.

Anyone else have similar problems?

The displayed battery percentage is a rough estimate, and you will notice slight variations especially after respringing due to the phone recalibrating. This is all normal as it is impossible to pinpoint the exact charge of a (lithium-ion) battery :).

i have the same issue as well. using batterydetective shows battery charge at roughly 80% whereas the status bar shows full charge.

device: iphone 4s

Well this is slightly different. The percentage indicated by battery detective is based from designed battery capacity. The battery indicator in the status bar is based on current capacity.

Just do a recalibration.

(Let the battery die, let it rest for 8h and do then a FULL charge)

I'd rather just let it die, then recharge. I've heard letting it sit empty causes crystals to form in the battery and that that decreases potential charge. 8 hours seems a little much.

Lithium ion batteries are best served to keep the electrons constantly moving. Therefore letting it sit completely dead for any extended period of time is really bad for the battery's health.

Yeah well, Apple knows better I think:

Use iPhone Regularly
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

Yea well, way to twist my words. I never said letting the battery drain and then recharging to 100% is bad. In fact I do this once a month, per apple's guidelines. I said "letting the battery sit dead for an extended period of time is bad for the battery's health".

1 of many sources:
http://techtips.salon.com/calibrating-iphone-battery-25346.html

Calibration
"To maximize the benefits of the iPhone's lithium-ion battery, lessen its disadvantages and keep the battery meter accurate, calibrate your iPhone every month or so by allowing it to fully discharge. After the iPhone shuts off, recharge it without interruption until it reaches 100 percent of charge. This keeps the battery's electrons moving, increasing its overall health, and recalibrates the battery meter to accurately display the charge."

So what exactly did you prove with that quote from Apple's site?

Here's your post with less words:

I've heard leaving your battery dead for several hours is bad.

Proof leaving your battery dead for several hours isn't bad!:

...I'm not sure I see your logic. And for the record I fully drain my iPhone one to two times per month because I know it is recommended and I know it is 'good' for the battery. :p

Thanks. That's all I was trying to say. I don't want people accidentally ruining their batteries because of false information on this thread. I take a lot of pride in picking my spots where I'm knowledgeable and I post feedback to help fellow members. Recalibration is a good thing to do monthly. I always do it and my battery life is terrific. Nearly as strong as when I first got my 4S a year ago.

I re-calibrated the other day for the first time in months and noticed a large increase in battery performance. Already put in calendar to do it bi-weekly

Battery Percentage off by 4%

I have the BatteryCenter tweak installed in my notification center and I just noticed that it's reading three points lower than what's reported in my status bar (55% vs 58%). Weird.

When iPhones battery is 0% and it shuts down, the battery is not empty! This goes to all cellphones that uses this kind of battery. That saves the battery from been ruin as theres allways little power in battery.

You can and should drain you iPhone to the point that it shuts down and do a full charge circle ones a month

You think that's bad?

Wow 216 cycles? I thought mine was high at 58. It was my understanding from reading Apple's support pages that it is best to keep the battery topped off as much as possible to avoid full cycles and then perform an intentional cycle once per month. That's what I've been doing since the iPhone 3G and I've been happy with the performance and reported accuracy.

So I got under your skin because of the 8h comment? OK guys, I'm so sorry and I apologize to any forum user who now has a dead phone due to my post.
