I bought me a few weeks ago a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) through eBay brand new (probably refurbished) but at a great price with only 1 battery charge. I did notice a small dent but for a $2700 computer I'm fine with the price I paid. Just recently I have started noticing that the battery capacity is varying a bit and I feel like it is not lasting as much as it should. I do have the AppleCare warranty also until 2018. Is it normal for the capacity to vary in just 42 charge cycles? Has anyone experienced this problem before?

Thanks!

What do you mean by vary? 7 hours of use one day, 8 the next?

Battery life is influenced by a multitude of factors. It's quite hard to ensure you're actually measuring the same thing if you're just looking at the amount of time it lasts on a charge.
A charge is a certain amount of mAh, and how long it takes to use that up will vary based on use - and is not always completely within your control.

Unless you're seeing abnormal health on the battery, everything is most likely fine.

Don't get a battery app it'll just make you more paranoid.

Your Mac has an activity monitor that will show you what processes are using battery.

You have given us literally no information to assess wether your battery life is right, what apps are you using and at what you are doing with them, what brightness your screen is kept at, not even what battery life you are actually getting.

As others have said what you use your computer for can drastically change the battery life, a light user browsing simple web pages might get 9-10 hours , a heavy user gaming and editing 4K video might get 2-3 hours.

After seeing your data I would just relax, the battery are doing fine.
And as you can see there is a little measuring instability.
Nothing to worry about.

When I had my old rMBP 15" 2012 I were even further below average.

Here's coconutBattery report. http://ccbonline.coconut-flavour.com/index.php?bid=13dc717b59af44bc775115246d2eb957

Mostly just browsing on opera, safari, mail open, sublime and a few other simple apps such as notes and wunderlist. Battery seems to last about 7 hours. It doesn't go through my whole day of work which is 9 - 5 which 1 free hour for lunch.

Sounds all good to me you are just using it intensively enough to only get 7 hours if you want better battery drop the screen brightness that's one of the biggest battery draws.

I paid $2089 with AppleCare. To be honest I feel like it was an amazing deal.
Not sure which spec your MBP is but a 2016 15'' entry level cost USD 2348 with AppleCare (2.2GHz Processor, 256 GB Storage). A refurbished mid-2015 (16GB ram, 256GB SSD) is only USD 1699.

Apple refurbish is currently selling the exact same spec for $2,119.00 (1 year warranty) and if you were to add applecare (another $349) then it's $2468. Your applecare would expire on 2019 rather than 2018. So it's not a good deal plus you should not get a dent on the refurbish from Apple.
