Probably been asked a million times, sorry...

with a full charge, and shut down, how long should it last...?

i.e. last nite it was at about 2/3 charge i think and i shut it down completely and went to bed, 10 hrs or less later it is dead...

is that normal? keep it plugged in all the time? to avoid this?

Doesn't sound right to me. My G4 Powerbook holds a strong charge for several days and drops off gradually. Depending on what I do with it I get about 2-4 hrs operation on a full charge. All this with the battery that was recalled! I haven't actually used the battery that I got from Apple to power the laptop away from my desk yet.

i seem to get several hours of use out of it but something happens when i shut it down, it would appear...

i will keep track of exactly what and when to see if it happens again

No, I agree too. If the computer is shut down, it should last a looong time -- there should be essentially no battery drainage, and you should even be able to open it up a week or two later and boot it. Even sleeping, it should last for at least about four or five days on a full charge. But turned off, there really should only be natural dissipation in the battery. So there is something wrong. Either the computer did not really successfullly shut down or there is some defect with the hardware.
