My MBA battery says its health is 96% after 13 cycles. I calibrated it and it went up to that 96% from 94%.

I had a question about the calibration and can't find it on Apple's website. So, I charge the computer using it. Once the power plug turns green, I let it charge another 2-3 hours. At that point, I unplug it and keep running a movie until the computer dies. I leave it dead for about 2-3 hours. The sleep light eventually goes off. I hit the power button, to make sure it is off -this is where things get a bit gray in my knowledge of calibration. Nothing happens. The computer is what appears to be off. I charge it until the power cord is green and let it charge another 2 hours, just in case.

When I open up the MBA, all of the sudden my movie is playing and everything is exactly as it was when it died. Did I do something wrong here?
I was under the impression that the computer should actually restart once I do all of the above. I know it saves an image or something of the disk, but when I do this with my MBP, I actually have to turn on the computer, then it resumes where I left off.

Thanks

I noticed that if you try and charge it at 95% and above it will remain
at that % however if below 95% it will charge to 100%.

I am also interested in the proper calibration procedure.

Thanks,

Letting my MBA sleep for 5 hours on battery, then putting on the magsafe adapter for it to charge up, i open the lid and the screen goes grey in colour as if its waking up again.... also making sure before i do put it back on charge once it goes dead that it doesnt turn on from the power button ....

any help ??

Apparently that behaviour (95 - 100%) is normal. There's an article on Apple's website if you search for 'battery life' you should find it. It also details the recommended usage, etc.

You should get the 'grey screen' as this indicates that it's waking from safe sleep. It should have a sort of progress indicator at the bottom which ticks up while it's restoring from disk, then it should appear as it was when you put it to sleep. There is no need to restart.

Thanks for the quick reply, yes the progress bar comes up, this is what comes up after i drain the battery and put it back on charge to recalibrate the battery, then after it has charged when i turn it on, the progress bar comes up and the screen is "greyed" out....

What im wanting to know is, when it goes into full deep sleep for the 5 hours mentioned, once i connect the magsafe adapter to charge it back up, should i turn the machine on to get it out of that "greyed out" state and do a proper shutdown and then let it charge over night ?

As far as I'm aware you can use the machine as normal from that point. If I understand the whole calibration process, the idea is almost to reset what the battery thinks is 'empty'. So you use the machine until it goes to sleep, then the recommended 5 hours uses the little battery power that remains, during which it should go into safe sleep.
