I'll leave my iPhone plugged in over night I'll look a it and it will be at 100%. Look at it a couple hours later and it will randomly be at 99%.
Anyone know what's going on here or seem to have the same problem?
Not really a problem just curious.

It has to do with the way the the battery controls the charging cycle. The name of the process/feature escapes me right now...

Anal retentiveness? Obsession? :)

I forget the term as well, but your battery is fine. It's just a meter, and can't read it perfectly. If it bothers you, calibrate the battery and it may read %100.

Appreciate it. I haven't done that yet to my 3GS. Probably why it was reading it like that.

You guys are dense if you dont think this is a problem. Each battery has a life of around 3-400 charge cycles. Having your phone go down to 99% every 30 minutes or so over night causes those cycles to add up QUICKLY. My previous generation phones NEVER... I repeat... NEVER did this.

Its not anal, its called money. Remember we cant replace our phones battery...

I keep my percentage turned off. That way i dont worry about little stuff like this. When it is in the red then i recharge it.

Once cycle isn't a charge, but rather a full charge. If you drain it to 50% once, then recharge it, then 75% twice and recharge it thats 100%, and counts as one charging cycle

I agree with iphone.aggie's comment. Its one thing if you accidentally notice this, but it seems like it actually bothers you /keeps you up at night >_<

most battery circuits are not concerned about keeping the battery at 100% ( my plugged in laptop right now shows 99%)

IF you are really concerned then I would completely drain and charge your phone 3x in a row, this will calibrate the battery if it is off.

Whoa, overreaction and utterly wrong.

So, I think there is a term for this that is more technical, but I'll do my best. Li-ion batteries can't handle overcharging, so trickle-type chargers aren't used. Instead, a sort of "smart charging" is used where the battery is charged up to a certain threshold where they are considered "full." Then charging stops to prevent overcharging and the nastiness that can occur there. So at this point, the phone is still plugged in, but not charging, so naturally the charge starts to dissipate. Is going to dip back down below that threshold and then start charging again, back and forth back and forth. This is registering on your battery percentage as a one percent drop, but its certainly not going to rack up charge cycles abnormally fast.
