My 4yo iPhone X battery was getting pretty tired, saying it was at 70% health and needing recharging mid way through a long day. I had it replaced (Best Buy Geek Squad) and although the battery now says 100% healthy, it's only lasting about 8 hours—not even close to what the original battery provided. Are there tricks (beside springing for a new model) to get more life out of it, or could the battery be faulty despite boasting its health level?

Thanks in advance.

If you’re comparing the battery life you used to get a long time ago with an older version of iOS to what you’re getting now with the current version of iOS — I’d blame the newer version of iOS for your increased battery discharge

That actually may be the case, that the current iOS is simply more than the phone can handle well, regardless of its battery. I just would expect a new battery at 100% health to perform better than one at 70%.

Is the battery OEM? If not, that could be a big reason why you are seeing less than before. The battery could also be old and non OEM.
Thanks. I expect it is OEM (the technician brought out the battery box and it was plain white, no Apple id that I could see. They are certified Apple techs, but the battery may be a few years old sitting in the box...it was way down in juice when I got the phone back, but who knows. Guess I could ask other X users who've replaced their battery whether it provided more than half a day's power.

I just had my iPhone X battery replace last weekend at a local Apple store and the difference was night and day. My battery was showing 80% capacity but the service battery notification was displayed and would go through the battery quickly under heavy use. If I babied it I could make through the day with about 10-15% at bedtime. Now it easily gets through the day with 40% left using it as I like.. iOS15 definitely uses more battery compared to iOS14, iOS12 and iOS11. I skipped iOS13 completely but I'd say I had best battery usage on iOS12.. I just bought a smart plug and am going to setup automations to charge the battery when it gets under 40% and turn off at 85% to try and see if it makes a difference in battery health. I charged my first battery when it needed it mostly using wireless charging and it seemed to do fine.

I wonder if the diff might be the battery that Apple installed (vs the one that Best Buy installed). thanks for the reply.

BestBuy is supposed to be an AASP so they should be using Apple batteries.. My new battery only had a 20% charge when I picked it up and Coconutbattery lists it as manufactured May 2021

Just downloaded coconutbattery and it indicates the battery was made earlier this year by Sunwoda, so I guess it may be I was expecting something greater than capable. or maybe my apps/configuration...will research it a bit more.

thanks again
