My iPhone 14 Pro Max battery health is at 84%; it is noticeable as far as how long it lasts through the day. I use it a lot every day so it’s to be expected I guess. I’m considering purchasing a 16 and really looking forward to the event as I always do but for the sake of fully considering my options I would like feedback from those who elected to have battery replacement done through Apple. If you have an appointment set up, will they do it same day i.e. you don’t have to let them keep it overnight, and do you think the phone still has its water resistant integrity afterwards?
I’m leaning towards new phone but nothing really compels me to upgrade except USB-C and hopefully even brighter outdoor display and maybe more efficient? Of course having fresh new iPhone is always nice I think.
Anyway just seeking experiences on Apple battery replacement.
Thanks in advance and getting the 🍿 ready for Monday!

They do it in around an hour if they have the battery your phone requires in stock. As far as water resistance goes, they replace the display seal but do not test it so if it's done properly your water resistance should be as good as it was when first assembled.. I've had it done to 2 different phones and it came out fine with no issues

This is my experience of doing it in Sydney, but I could get same day replacement either by getting a new device or by them replacing the battery. They say it takes 2 hours to finish it, so I just wander around CBD a bit until they are done. Overall pretty smooth experience.

My battery % was at 87% and I was able to pay for a replacement. It was a fairly quick and easy process and they assured me that everything is sealed as it should be.

I once had an 11PM battery service in an Apple Store. Only took 1 hour. They told me they’d replaced the waterproof seal too. All good.

My 6S, OGSE and 8 have all received battery replacements from Apple within the last year and a half. All took around an hour with no issues to report back.

I will have my 13’s battery replaced in January 2025.

I've had 5 battery replacements at Apple UK for my phones and those of my family (iPhone 6s, 2 iPhone 7s, iPhone X & iPhone 8). In all occasions, after arriving at the booked time, I was told to come back after 2-3 hours. In two of the five cases, I returned to be tolf there had been an issue with the battery exchange and Apple would provide a replacement (refurb) phone. In one of these cases, they had a suitable refurb in stock and in the other, they didn't and needed to order in a refurb which took a couple of days. My reading of the two replacements were that the technician had broken or damanged the original phone when carrying out the battery swap.

I done it for my mother’s iPhone 7 Plus before, in the Apple Store. I did a walk in with the Apple Store Genius Bar last summer (not during a holiday) and they did it under two hours on a weekday. No important battery message as the replacement was done under Apple, and the water resistance seal is installed back after the battery is replaced. In order to do this, the Genius will need to do a diagnostic on the iPhone, and if the battery health is under 80%, it will be eligible for battery replacement. That is the golden rule when you have iPhone battery replacement; these iPhones that fall under that capacity are usually not able to last throughout an entire day without needing to charge it, random shutdowns and other battery issues.

If your existing iPhone is worth trade in value and is in good condition, I encourage you to take advantage of Apple Trade In, formerly Apple giveback from 2017-18. You can check it here: https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in...47689_&cid=aos-us-kwgo-brand--slid---product-

To avoid shipping costs you can pull up to a local Apple Store, and a Specialist can help you get the iPhone you want to upgrade to and assist in setting up the new iPhone via Personal Setup and save a few bucks with the trade in value. Your Specialist will check out your existing iPhone, to make sure that there are no obvious issues or damage on it.

I've had 2 battery replacements done.

SE (1st gen): Completed in Apple UK store; finished in under 2 hour...this was when Apple was offering discounted battery changes.

XR: Completed at Apple UAE store. Again was told to come back after 2 hours...which I did. For the XR (not sure why) the speaker and gaskets were replaced. Apple ran a diagnostic on the phone prior to changing the battery; they found a speaker defect and asked if I'd have issues with the speakers...which I replied nope. Ended up playing some random youtube songs and the Apple genius couldn't hear a problem with the speaker. The speaker was replaced regardless but to be honest I didn't hear any difference.

Both times I was happy with the service offered, and would use Apple again in the future...

What I wasn't happy with is the replacement battery; in both instances the replacement battery (in both the SE and XR) degraded faster and ultimately didn't last as long as the orignal battery which came with the phone. Not sure why....I must have not won the battery lottery.

Both my batteries that were replaced by Apple were replaced showing over 80%. If you pay out of pocket, they had no issue doing the work. If you're expecting Apple to pay for it under warranty or AppleCare+, then it needs to be under 80% using Apples diagnostic equipment..

Apple flagship store in Germany / Munich broke my 12 Pro Display but replaced that … on the following vacation it turned out they also messed up waterproofing which resulted in a dead 12 Pro … got a refurbished one afterwards that I sold.
don’t know if this is happens frequently but I guess waterproofing can’t be as good as from the factory after tearing it apart .. so for me never again

This is exactly what I'm concerned about, and here in the US there's a big chance that the people doing the battery replacement will do a substandard job of it.

So for me, the few times that I've done battery replacements; they did them same day. Now I will say, at times they took longer than expected. It's supposed to take only an hour but if they are busy expect them to take longer than that. But I've never had to let them keep my phone overnight. I've also went to the Apple Store for a battery replacement without an appointment, but YMMV. Good luck on your decision! :)

Same for me; but the iPhone 7 Plus that needed the battery replacement was out of warranty but was at around 74% battery capacity. No appointment, same day within 2 hours. Depends on the wait time and how packed the Apple Store is; expect longer during Christmas and holidays like Black Friday.

There may be something to this. It happened to me as well on two seperate occasions with two different types of batteries. one was with an iPhone SE (1st gen), which I purchased used and had it sent in to Apple for battery replacement. The second was for my first generation 9.7 inch iPad Pro, which also was sent in and returned to me. Both replacement batteries were horrible with battery health. I should have followed through with Apple to let them know about the bad batteries, but I ended up replacing both with newer models. This leads me to the question: Does apple offer its standard one year warranty on replacement batteries that they install?

my experience replacing a battery under AppleCare + with 79% health:

1st trip: showed up 10 mins late to my appointment because of traffic and they’d cancelled the appointment. Mind you this was a Thursday night at 5pm with not that many people at the store.

2nd trip:made a new appointment. Waited in the store for a genius for 45 mins. I counted 10 employees standing around the store but I guess no one worked the repairs? By the time they got to me and finished the diagnostic they said there was only 50 mins left before the store closed and told me to come back the next day.

3rd trip: came back next day on my lunch break to drop off phone. Waited another 15 minutes to hand them the phone.

4th trip: came back that night to pick it up. Another 15 minute wait.

I try to avoid stepping into the Apple Store for anything. Buy my stuff from Best Buy instead. Far better service in my opinion

Was that Apple Store short staffed? My local one they let you have walk in Genius Bar appointment or consultation with a 10-15 minute wait on non packed days. Only on holidays or launch days it’ll be hard to get an appointment with a Genius or do a walk in.

Last time I got a battery replaced was back in 2020 when I got my 12 mini. I gave my old iPhone X to my brother and wanted to give him a fresh battery with it. I believe I was still paying AC+ monthly for it and it was well under 80% battery health. This was also during the Covid pandemic, I could be wrong but the Apple Store was partially locked down at the time as well - I just remember a line out the store and a single table set up with employees and we needed a mask and temperature check before entering the store.

I remember dropping off the device and they texted me roughly an hour later when it was ready. It was a pretty easy and straight forward experience.
