Anyone knows whether the 3rd party SSD is an issue with battery replacement?

$199+tax is still cheaper than a new computer, and last January I replaced the drive in my 2015 with a 1TB OWC drive.

Thanks,
Kevin

I don't understand your question. SSD and battery are two separate items that have no relationship except that the battery powers the SSD.

I think they’re worried that if apple sees a third party ssd they’ll try to deny the repair. It could happen, I suppose. Do you have the original ssd? Could you swap it in before you drop it off? I don’t think it will be an issue, but maybe?

In the unlikely event they deny the battery replacement, DIY for ~$60, which is what I did for my 2015 MBP.

btw, if the battery is swelling, do not delay. It will damage the trackpad, in which case you will buying a new computer because the repair will be too expensive.

If you still have the original SSD, put it back in.
THEN hand it over for the battery replacement.

I don't recall if I have the original SSD. It was completely dead, it wasn't like I just upgraded for the size.

If you all don't think it is an issue, I'll just leave it in. It is all encrypted anyway, and I'll backup everything to a SD card.

I would probably turn the computer in at an Apple Store, like I did the last time I replaced the battery.

This wouldn't have been an issue if backorders hadn't been so bad last year that I cancelled the order before I would have had to pay for it and it hadn't been shipped yet. Cancelled that, then the drive failed. So bought replacement drive.

Why would they not replace the battery? That's like not working on your car because you bought new tires from someone other than the dealer...

How absurd...

In fact, if you read on iFixit the Federal government forbids companies from imposing limitations on your warranty just because you open a product that you own.

In case you don't believe me....
